Tribune: Johnny Knox likely not to play in 2012
Chicago Bears: Johnny Knox will open season on PUP list - chicagotribune.com
| Quote: |
Bears wide receiver/kick returner Johnny Knox, who continues to slowly recover from December spinal fusion surgery, is scheduled to start the regular season on the physically-unable-to-perform list, according to multiple sources familiar with Knox's progress.
It has long been speculated Knox wouldn't be ready for the start of the season considering the severity of his injury. He was forced to wear a back brace after the surgery and continues to walk with a limp now. But there was more structural damage than initially anticipated, according to one source.
Knox could not be reached for comment.
There is a strong chance Knox won't play in 2012, but placing him on the PUP list would leave open a return to the field if Knox's recovery is accelerated. He would have to sit out the first six weeks of the regular season once designated to the PUP list. |

Got the news already Windy. That's a bitch for him. Guess we were too optimistic about the earlier prognosis. I just hope for his sake it's not a career-ender. He turned down the same deal we offered Bennett last fall right before he got hurt and although he'll get paid it won't be the $4 mil he turned down.
Maybe Forte should pay some attention to this. He came damn close to a potential career-ender when he took that shot in the knee against KC. I would think that with as dangerous a game as these guys play they wouldn't allow themselves to be such poor risk managers. I blame that on the agents. They get paid on the value of the deal whether or not it's collected is up to the player.

I like Knox and I wish him all the best, that hit was sickening but it was one of those thigns, a freak occurence. I think its a given he will be on the PUP and possibly IR by the time the season is in full swing. I've seen interviews where he has said he hasnt watched tape of the hit and all i can say is that i dont blame him! I wonder though, next time he suits up, if he will ever be able to put that out of his mind.
I hope he returns though, the guy is a nice addition and but for the holding call, that trick play return against the pack last year was sublime!

I really like the kid. He plays hard and he's got heart which has made up for his size. I hope he makes it back eventually.

Well this was an altogether smart move by the team. At least this reserves the possibility of bringing him back in 2012 is his healing progresses. Placing him on the IR would have wiped him out for the entire year unless we'd have been willing to expose him to a waiver claim and I can't see that being very wise.

ZachZaidman: #Bears announce they've agreed to terms with WR Devin Thomas on a one-year contract.
Weams and this dud will revolutionize bears football
I hope this doesn't mean an ipgrade at wr in the draft

What is this about??? We still need to draft a WR for the future IMO.
