Bears CEO Phillips hopeful Forte will take 'strong offer'
Matt Forte has a contract offer from the Chicago Bears. Now he's left to decide if the deal on the table is sufficient.
Forte, whom the team used its franchise tag on earlier this offseason, was given what Bears president and CEO Ted Phillips called a "strong offer" despite friction after Chicago signed Michael Bush, one of the top free-agent running backs.
"I think not only do we appreciate him and have told him so, but I think the offer we've made him shows that, too," Phillips said Monday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "Now, different people can disagree on the ultimate value. But we feel we've made a strong offer to him and are still hopeful he accepts it."
Forte said Thursday on Twitter that the organization had "disrespected" him with Bush's signing. Bears coach Lovie Smith tried to quiet concerns by saying everything between the sides would "work out fine."
Phillips echoed Smith's comments, saying Bush wasn't brought in to replace Forte.
"Matt Forte is our No. 1 running back," Phillips said. "He's been told that, and he knows that. We all know that. He's going to be a Bear for 2012, at least. He knows he has a long-term offer on the table, and we hope, at some point and time, he chooses to accept that."

its a game of cat and mouse but thats how it should be. The bears are making the right sounds in this one, and as much as i woudl love to see Forte back in uniform come opening game day, it has to be at our price. now if someoen wants to come in with a top 20 pick then maybe we have a decision but thats a nice option to have. We need to stay firm and for what its worth I think Forte remains a Bear.

What Swetty Teddy says is a "strong offer" and what the current "standard offers" are might be completely different. But if they are the same, and Forte isn't taking it; she should.

LOL yeah I'll just call the old Hubaroo and see what he has to say. I'm sure he knows as much as we do.
Well I would hope by this time that the Bears have at least gotten this thing close to something they can all agree upon. Frankly I'm surprised there was even any action but from what Phillips is saying it sounds like they've laid something out there without any caveats or deadline as to how long he has to decide.
I wish I knew what the numbers looked like to brother but the Bears have played this one real close to the vest and so has the Forte camp. I guess we'll know soon enough whether they're all getting on the same page. From Phillips comments I would say that accepted or not Matt Forte will be wearing #22 on a Bears jersey again this year and I think that's a good thing. A trade now just won't balance out in our favor.
All things considered I'm dying to see what the offense will look like with the new additions now that we have an entire offseason to get the offense installed therefore it would be good to get Forte under contract so the whole offense can start working together as soon as the OTA's begin.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

sounds like... this is our last offer. Take it or we will trade you
-
I don't think it was here's our last offer take it or we'll trade you; it was, this is our last offer take it or we'll FT you the next 2 years also.

I cant take a side in this until I see the numbers. They make it sound reasonable but Forte side makes it sound like its an insult
and both sides are tight lipped about the deal lol
