Emery has scouted for two team, KC and Atlanta, both of whom have built very good Olines through the draft. I'd be willing to be that because of that Emery realizes the need to do that in Chicago as well. It doesn't take much genius to recognize how JA's rent-a-lineman methods didn't work in the long haul. You just can't afford to go out and buy an Oline. You have to build it.
I can't help but thinking Emery will spot at least one Olineman who he thinks is a bargain somewhere in this draft. He's not oblivious to the needs and he's also very aware that it costs as much for an OG or an OT as it does a top 10 WR when it comes to FA and lineman don't score TDs.
They never said they were ignoring the Oline they just said they weren't prioritizing it. All that means to me is that if there is another position that needs help, like a pass rusher or a CB, then they will most likely go that route first. I would be very surprised if Emery doesn't draft an Olineman somewhere along the line in this draft. He has to start the building process somewhere and I doubt he's content with every lineman on the team.

Agreed and I'd like to add that there is a lot of misdirection going on here as well and the "Smoke & Mirrors" plan is in full swing so other teams won't know just which direction Emery is going to go or when he will go there.

Always that way about this time of year with the Bears and most every other team too. It's not all that hard to project each teams needs once FA is over so you can only disguise your intentions to a certain degree no matter how much misdirection you attempt.
Everybody can see what the Bears did and didn't accomplish in FA and who of there own FA's the either extended or re-signed so it's not all that hard to see where the remaining holes are which need to be filled in the draft. Phil Emery may not be as much of a known quantity as JA was but the Bears are pretty much an open book when it comes to how the view the value of various positions on their team. Lovie is a defense oriented coach and that means the defense won't be ignored in the draft.
The fact that virtually every dollar spent in FA went to upgrade the offense also speaks pretty loudly as it relates to what direction they're most likely to go in the draft, at least in the earlier rounds. I'm not saying we shouldn't be looking for lineman for the offense but I think we're about full up on players at the skill positions as far as taking any early is concerned. Unless it's a BPA on your board move I think they'll be looking at defensive players to begin with.

Our defense needs a lot of work. With both Briggs and Urlacher coming off injuries we need to be working on their back-ups. Peppers needs some help on the D-line. I understand most teams only get one really good CB and we have Tillman but another good DB is needed.

Floyd in the first, OL in the second.
CB/S - TE - OL in the third.
Look ... we cant have CUTLER being ripped to shreds every time we play the NYG's.
They didnt win a SUPERBOWL by not beating the shit out of our OL over the last two years.
It's time to address the issue lying under the old regime.
OL in the second.
It's not about the Packers ... It's about the NYG's.

I'm really gonna be okay with whoever he picks, but I prefer o-line or WR (Floyd or Wright)

Any of those Olineman, TE's, CB's and SS rush the passer? We'll have less trouble defending the pass when opposing QB's have less time to throw. Ya' notice how tough it was for Cutler to complete passes when he was sitting on his ass on the ground. If you don't give a QB all that time to throw you don't need to cover so well for so long. DB's aren't the key to beating great passing teams, pass rushers are.
I'd love to be able to spend that 2nd round pick on one of the stud OG's in this draft but you can't do that if you take a WR in one. We beefed up the offense in FA so now we need to fill some defensive holes in the draft. If Floyd can still run a 4.5 forty at 260lbs and rush the passer we can take him otherwise we should pass.

Soul we were sixth against the run ... twentyeighth against the pass.
I think you would have to give our beloved DL and LB credit for ONE thing from last season.
They know their shit.
It's the secondary Soul.
AND ...
an OFFENSE ...that last year was beat up, throwing players under the bus with no rep time,
and keeping the D on the field too much.
You think Tebow would have beat us with a class A OL to keep him off the field?
Thanks to angelo our OL is/was the laughing stock of the laughing stock.
Every brain dead anaylist knew that ....
YEAR AFTER MOTHERFUCKING YEAR.
We owe Cutler to START building him an OL.
I dont care if they cant start DAY ONE ...
But DAY TWO on the other hand ....

A sixth this year and a second next year for DeCastro.
