My Conversion to the DE Club Mock Offseason
1[19] DE Whitney Mercilus [Illinois] 6'4" 265lbs.
The Bears need to add youth and speed to their DE core and Mercilus has both of those things. Peppers and Izzy are both north of 30 and Izzy has not been providing the Bears with the pass rush across from Izzy that we need. Mercilus can start the season as the 3rd down rusher rotating with Izzy while he develops to take over for Izzy as the starter.

2[50] OT/OG Kelechi Osemele [Iowa St] 6'6" 333lbs.
Osemele is a versatile OL player that can come in and start at a couple of different positions along the line. With his size and arm length he can provide depth at RT and with his size and physicality will allow him to dominate at LG. Osemele can step in at LG while Chris Williams competes with Webb at LT.

3[80] WR Greg Childs [Arkansas] 6'3" 220lbs.
The Bears took care of their #1 WR need and they have a reliable target in Bennett, but after that they do not have an NFL WR. Childs who has started to regain his speed after a knee injury can step in and be the #3 and has the size and speed to fill Marshall's role if he is suspended or injured.

4. CB Dwight Bentley [Louisiana Lafayette] 5'10" 192lbs.
The Bears need to add players with starting potential to their CB core to backup Tillman and to compete with Jennings from day 1. Bentley is a fast confident player that can be developed. Bentley showed at the Senior Bowl that he has solid ball skills and is willing to fight and compete with the best.

5. LB Emmanual Acho [Texas] 6'2" 236lbs.
The Bears need to add depth to the LB core to develop behind Briggs and Urlacher who may only have a couple more seasons. Acho has solid athletic ability and has played MLB and WLB for Texas. Acho is a high character leader that can help immediately on special teams.

6. S Sean Richardson [Vanderbilt] 6'1" 215lbs.
The Bears seem to have found their starting safeties with Conte and Wright, but they need depth as both players were injured last season. Richardson has the size that Lovie likes at safety and he is a physical tackler. From day 1 he should be a stand out special team contributor.

7. CB Robert Blanton [Notre Dame] 6'1" 195lbs.
The Bears need to add size and competition to the CB position and while Blanton does not have the ideal speed he is big and he tackles well. Blanton has the potential to survive in a zone defense that values how physical he plays.

Mercelis just seems like he's going to be a bust; no way would I pick him.

If i've come across as being critical of people wanting the guy, i apologize. With that said, WHY WOULD YOU WANT HIM, ARE YOU STUPID? He's a one year wonder, and got only one sack each previous season. Also, if you look at this past season, a lot of his sacks came against teams like Indiana, Northwestern and Arizona.

He also torched Mike Adams, a 1st round OT draftee, for sacks and a forced fumble. I'm not saying the guy is a MUST or that he can't bust (any player including Luck can), but he's been steadily climbing the draft boards since the Combine and his pro day for a reason--he's been impressive despite still being raw. And we need a DE pass rusher.

I missed the memo. Did Perry's stock fall or something? I remember him being around #17-19
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

The combine is NOT the best grader. BTW, the reason why i brought up the stats is that it reminded me that most of Cedric Benson's rushing yards were against smaller schools as well..
