i think we need the commish to make a ruling on Marshall, if he is indeed getting suspended for more then 4 games then a WR is smart move, if not then we need to go defense early

If a stud like Floyd or DeCastro falls to us at #19, I'm all for making the selection, however, I've also been toying with the idea of trading out of the 1st all together, but only if the perfect opportunity falls in our laps. That perfect opportunity would be (for me) a trade with the Eagles for their 2-second round picks and their 4th. On the draft value chart, this is about right, but we all know that chart is just a rough standard. If such a trade would occur, my selections would look like this:
2. Harrison Smith
2. Chandler Jones/Vinny Curry
2. Kevin Zeitler
3. Ben Jones
4. Ladarious Green
4. Nate Potter
5. Shaun Prater
6. BPA
7. BPA
I'm afraid Zeitler wont be there, but he would sure look good lined up next to Gabe Carimi again. It also appears Chandler Jones is moving up boards, but I'd take Vinny Curry as well.
The Greatest form of revenge is MASSIVE success.

I've come in on the tail end of this, so I'm definitely intrigued to know why there's talk of doing something about Brandon Marshall when we know next to nothing about the situation and what disciplinary action(s) might be taken. After all, I do believe that he will play the full season since there are multiple sides to his story. He's never been suspended as far as I know, so let's hope and pray that Marshall is going to be okay.
Also, check out WalterFootball.com. They're projecting the Bears to take Quinton Coples in the first round. This is interesting, but if we take him, can we guarantee that we're going to get the best effort out of him that he can give us?

Then you go with the DE(s) who are available. We all know that defense wins championships - just ask the Giants and the Packers from the past two years. Our defense is missing one key ingredient, and that is a good pass rush.
At the same time, just as I said to Windy at the beginning of the thread, you have to take into consideration of possibly trading up to late in the first round after Emery makes his mind up with the 19th pick. We could then put this baby to rest by drafting either Stephen Hill or Kendell Wright and life would go on and we would all be happy.
I agree that DE is a bigger need but if we could get both that would be sweet!
Go Bears!

Okay, I think everyone knows I'm a big fan of going BPA, but I'm not a huge college fan, so let me ask this question.
From what I could tell, by the looks of it, The top 3 qb's will be off the board(not that they would be a target for us anyways), the top 3 OT's will be off the board, the top rb will be off the board(only 1 taken in the first round and not a target for us rnd 1), the top 1 cb, the top 2 wr's, the Top 3 DE's , The top 2 DT's, the top LB, the top S and G. So I guess the real question is, value wise, do you think the 4th best OT, or DE, or 3rd best DT or WR better then the 2nd best G, LB, CB, or best C? And is the difference between the 3rd and 4th best so big a difference that we couldn't address it in the 2nd or 3rd rounds compared to what we can get in those other positions.
Reality is we need all these positions filled.

The gist of it all is that we need a DE in the first round. Without a dominant pass rush, our defense is in bad trouble. Our defense continues to give up more than 220 yards per game through the air, and that can't happen if the team wants to seriously contend for a Super Bowl. We upgraded at CB by getting Kelvin Hayden, but our safety position needs another player, so I would almost guarantee that another one will be drafted somewhere between rounds two and five. Our three techniques and one half of the five technique are good to go, but we need balance at DE so that we can give Peppers better openings to go after the quarterback. Some sites are projecting that none other than Quinton Coples will be available for the Bears to draft at #19 (WalterFootball.com), while Mel Kiper, Jr., says the Bears will draft Mercilis. Either player would answer the problem with our pass rush that is virtually non-existant. Some other choices would be WR Kendall Wright, OT Jonathan Martin, and OG Cordy Glenn if all else fails and Emery decides not to go with a DE in the first round.
Then there's the offense, and unfortunately, we aren't going to see jack shit done to the LT position because Mike Tice has been too busy syphoning J'Marcus Webb's tool to wake up, smell the roses, and realize that he is the weak spot on that line. I'm hopeful that either Carimi or Chris Williams will move to LT and that we can draft someone in the early-to-middle rounds to supplement our line at OG. Meanwhile, there's the issue with Matt Forte's contract, and frankly, I couldn't give two shits at this stage if we don't go out and trade him for draft picks. We need to get young, and fast, because the heart of our defense is getting old and only time will be the adjudicator as to how much longer they'll be effective.
I think the second round could go one of two ways: one, it could be that we draft someone like OG Kevin Zeitler to come in and play on our line; or two, we can trade our second pick and another draft choice up so that we get another pick in the first round. We have a lot of options.
