CBS: Half the Top 10 Wants to Trade Down

According to Rob Rang at CBBS.

NFL Exec: 'Half of the teams in the top 10 are trying to trade out' - CBSSports

Teams mentioned, Vikings (Spielman already made comments on the subject), Browns, Buccs, Bills and Dolphins. There could be plenty of excitement early on in the draft if these pans out, however I have my doubts how many of them could find a willing dance partner.

This is either an indictment of the available top ten talent or everyone is salivating At the bounty rams got for their pick and would like to do the same

I'm wondering if its any different than the norm. I would assume most teams typically see what they can get for a top pick just to see what their options are.

I can't say I'm surprised. Its really not a start studded draft this year. I mean look at the generally listed top 10 players of this draft:

    Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
    Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
    Matt Kalil, OT, Southern California
    Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M
    Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama
    Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi State
    Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU
    Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State
    Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis
    Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa

With the exception of Luck, RG3, Kalil and Richardson...well let's just say you hope these other guys will be at least solid pros. Lot of guys with questionable talent at the next level. We've had much deeper draft classes than this one. Blackmon isn't even a top 10 talent at WR, compared to other guys that have come out from the WR ranks.

im sure its more prevalent now then before cause of rookie pay scale has changed

many teams around this time of the year cant handle 70 mil contracts past drafts handed out in top five picks but now even teams like patriots close to the cap can afford top ten talent

IF you're a team that's close enough to being truly competitive ( like the Bears ) then you dance, you make a deal with one of these teams and you just might get yourself over the hump. You mortgage some of the future ... but hell with it, it's been over two decades since you've won it all.

If you're a middle of the pack team you don't you draft as best you can ; and if u suk then you trade down and get as many picks as u can.

Bears need to strike while the iron is still hot .... otherwise it's wait some more. We've BEEN waiting - long enough already.
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?

    A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?

I think it's a combination mo. There's some legitimate top 10 talent there but some riskier picks have crept into the top 10 as well. Washington paid a bundle to get Griffin but there are no other franchise QB's or even franchise WR's worth that kind of booty. The Browns and the Phins need a QB but nobody want to take a shot at another one in the top 10. Tannehill made some noise at his pro-day but he's a huge reach in the top 10.

Then you've got guys like Coples and Ingram who could be stars or could be very medicore pros. When you see that some pickers have Coples sliding all the way down to us at #19 you know he has some big question marks surrounding him. Same with Floyd. In any other draft there is no way the guy is a top 10 pick but the caliber of WR talent at the top isn't as good as it's been in other years.

I think a lot of teams are seeing good value in rounds 2-4 and they'd love to trade back and pick up later picks which is why I hope we don't trade up and I wouldn't be upset if we traded down. With the exception of a few key players I like the value of the picks after the first 15 are gone more than I like the top 15. I think anywhere between #19 and #25 we can get a good player to fill a spot this year and I think if we choose well we can pull another contributor out of round two.

There is a whole lot of $500k per year talent in this draft that won't be rated too far below the $2-$3 mil per year talent. The costs of some of these top vet deals are sky-rocketing and teams will need to fill more spots with cheaper rookies and 2nd and 3rd year guys in order to be able to afford to keep their stars. Salaries are on the rise but the cap isn't.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Well i have an idea. Since Forte wants to hold out.... ok here's a plan

    Bears #19 overall
    Forte

    for

    Tampa #5
    Tampa #37

i think that is really fair, they have the money to sign forte to a long term deal and we get a new RB and a higher 2nd round pick which could help us make two bold moves in the second round and save the team 7.7 million on the books. Id love to have Richardson as well escp come time in those mid december/january games when we will need to pound that ball down field in those nasty weather conditions. On a side note i think Richardson will be the new face of the NFL, we could use that these days
