None of us knows what the offer on the table is. We don't know whether it really is a lowball the Bears are stubbornly sticking too or whether it is a "legit deal" that Forte in under-valueing in demanding money beyond his worth. We just don't know.
But, if there's no LT deal to be made and Forte refuses to play under the $7.7m tag, I'd rather see a trade for pick(s) than a holdout controversy. Of course, finding a partner willing to pay MF to his satisfaction with appropriate draft compensation might be a tall order.

i know mist people will disagree but there are way too many busts that come out of the 1st round that id rather have a bunch of 2nd round picks instead

Going off the score's Bears beat guy; all sources from HH(not that this means it's true) say the offer was never raised more then 15mil. Now again, your right we don't know for certain, and it's possible he wouldn't sign a 18 mil deal also. I'm just going off what I've heard.
Still listen to yourselves; he's not worth a long term high dollar deal, but lets trade him for a 1st or 2nd when and let another team sign him to it. But if RB's are worth it, why would another team do it?

"Renting" Forte for 2 years only under the FT would cost $17m (7.7 + 9.2) in "guaranteed" money. So, if the bears haven't offered him 17 min in LT guarantees, then that's stupid and non cap friendly as well. It's possible and I wouldn't blame forte for turning 15 down in that case, but I gotta believe the team isn't that foolish. Just my best guess as none of us really know who's really "playing hardball" here the most. Very frustrating that this just hasn't gotten wrapped up yet.

Im beginning to think it was not a low ball offer. Fact is Forte is taking a hit with the fans with how he is handling his contract status. So if its a low ball offer why hasnt he made it public what this offer is? He wants fans to have his back he would have leaked it out by now. And we all know he has been playing it through the media anyways since last season. So whats up Forte its a low ball offer what was that offer? I think he is trying to get a blockbuster from us
Cleveland and Cincy seem to be the two most logical destinations. Cleveland more so cause they dont have a damn thing to sell their fan base. Cincy is usually too cheap to give the type of contract Forte is looking for. On Clev he can be their franchise player face of the franchise

Well, I think that people mis-use the term "Market Value" in all of this. As an appraiser by profession, I can tell you that what these guys get paid (not just Forte, but ALL athletes), isn't REALLY market value, but more so a lesser known term called "Value in Use". I only bring this up to answer your question. Value in Use is that value that a certain commodity has to a specific user/market, not the general market. Have you ever seen a Walgreens or a CVS buy a property in your neighborhood with a good building on it, only to tear it down and build their own. They paid FAR MORE than "Market Value" for that property, just so they could have that specific corner lot. In other words, Matt Forte is a very good RB, but regardless of HIS quality at his position, the position itself may not be valued as highly by some teams as it is others. Because of Matts age and milage, I'm happy the Bears do not want to give him so much Guaranteed money that could hamstring us later. I want Matt to be happy as well, so perhaps he would be better served to play for a team that DOES value the position higher (a group that is dwindling, but still there). Many people blame the Bears for an unfair offer, but I suspect that more than half the league would feel the same way. So, find one of those teams to pay us (we won't get a 1st) and pay him as well.
I suggest trading him the New England for both their 2nd round picks; and trade our 1st for Philly's 2 seconds. That would give us 5 picks in the second round where there is much more value, plus our 3rd which would give us 6 picks in the top 100. With one of those picks (3rd), grab a kid like Robert Turbin from Utah to replace Forte.
The Greatest form of revenge is MASSIVE success.

You do understand he's not that old right? He still has a minimum 3 top end years left; and another 2-3 years of quality after that. He's also only missed 4 games in the last 4 years, ecspecially for a back that has that kind of carries/catches per year that's impressive.
Bears should value the RB position, ecspecially Forte, he's been 40+% of this O since becoming a Bear, they should know that not just in passing, but running he's going to give them what they need.
Again, no one is going to trade for a low valued position a top pick, and then pay him top dollar. Ecspecially NE; when's the last time they paid a back? Cleveland just went through a contract dispute w/a RB, why would they do it again?

someone posted on the mainboard the shefter report which discussed the Forte situation. It said that Matt turned down a contract offer that is close to what D Will got. If thats true Im not budging on my offer and entertaining trades.

This is a tough situation for the Bears if he won't sign anything but an extension. Forte wants a lot of money and I'm not sure the Bears would get the proper value in return in a trade because teams simply don't like paying RBs that much money anymore. So I say don't trade Forte and work something out. My big concern would be the Bears getting ripped off in a trade for the sake of moving Forte. The Bears may just have to bend on this one.

you guys are crazy if you think we are going to get a first round pick for him. Running backs are not worth as much as they used to be. Especially not veterans who have already have a heavy workload.
