Quinton Coples is a Freak....
Although I posted this elsewhere the video that goes along with this article is a must see for anyone who doubts what a physical freak this guy is and just how imposing he could be as a player if he gets to the right team and can get motivated to play to 100% of his capabilities. If he does this guy will be one scary DE.
Connecting Quinton Coples and the Bears

An unexpected fall last year left the Detroit Lions with one of the most celebrated players in the draft. Defensive tackle Nick Fairley had once been considered a potential No. 1 overall pick, and the Lions were thrilled to draft him at No. 12. Now I'm wondering if an NFC North team could benefit from another fall by a talented defensive lineman.
There are no recent red flags on North Carolina defensive end Quinton Coples, but the public discussion surrounding him includes some of the same work-ethic related keywords that have led to recent drops by Fairley and others. Speaking to several ESPN.com bloggers at the scouting combine, ESPN analyst Todd McShay said there were times when Coples stood up in games and "appeared to have a union deal." More recently, McShay said on his Draft Minute video series that there are times when Coples "is the best defensive player in the class" and there are others when "you watch him and say, 'Man, he's mailed it in.'"
Pass rushers are at such a premium that teams are willing to overlook some flaws to get the kind of presence Coples brings with his 6-foot-6 frame and 81-inch wingspan. It makes you wonder if a team like the Chicago Bears, whose needs at defensive end we have well-discussed, wouldn't be an ideal fit. Coples would have an All-Pro in Julius Peppers to attract most offensive attention, and he would have one of the league's top defensive line mentors in coordinator Rod Marinelli to keep him pushing forward.
ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr.
ranks Coples as the 14th-best player in the draft, and it would require a significant fall for him to still be available when the Bears pick at No. 19. But if he gets out of the top 10, as it appears he might, it wouldn't be a terrible idea for the Bears to consider trading up to get him. (Trading up for a high risk player simply increases the risk and costs you the possibility of another productive player you may have gotten with the pick you traded away. It's good thing Seifert isn't an NFL personnel guy or if he was I wish it could be for the Packers. Apparently Seifert went to the same GM school Matt Millen went to)
The Sports Science video gives you an idea of how imposing Coples is as a pass disruptor even if he doesn't get past the line of scrimmage. Check it out.
You guys gotta see him in this video. He's scary.

We may not even be interested in Coples let alone draft him. So far I haven't read one word about him even being on the Bears board period let alone the top of it but that doesn't always mean anything in these days of laying out a smokescreen thicker than a WWII Navy Destroyer.
After you watch this video you'll know why Coples will never fall out of the first round and probably not even out of the top ten or top fifteen at most. The guy is a beast as a pass rusher.

Mayock commented today that he would not have him on his board because his Senior tape was so bad.
I cannot see the Bears passing on him as he is exactly what we want and the risk is worth the 19th pick in the draft. The facts are that Coples is a top 3 talent if he was motivated and playing at his best, he may fall to 19 because he has not done that and the Bears should pick him and coach him up.
The Bears have the players around him and the coaches to get the best from an incredible talent.
It is also interesting that 2 weeks before the draft Coples become undraftable, I can see Emery and Lovie throwing wood on that fire and fanning the flames.

Wasn't the word on Peppers when he was drafted, or at least early in his career, that he took plays off? He has had a pretty damn good career. I would take the risk of trading up for him if he was still available at 10.

Now, now why would two fine, upstanding, honest, non-manipulative gentlemen do a thing like that!
Maycock has a valid point and I would think there are teams who wouldn't even think about taking him the Jets being one the comes to mind right off the top of my head and he's not a real fit for many other 3-4 teams either. I don't see him as an MWill clone. He's far more a big, tall straight old 4-3 DE like Pep.
Gurus never agree or there would only be one of them. Kiper rates him the #14 guy on his board so in my mind he could go 4 or 5 picks either side of that and I think he will go somewhere between #10 and #20. There's just too much physical ability there to ignore and in the video he doesn't come across as a head case and there aren't any major character concerns except his football character.
He's been lazy in college because he could be lazy and still wow people at times. That crap won't cut it in the NFL but he needs to be on a team that will put constant pressure on him to play to his potential. The same kind of gentle persuasive ass kicking Melton got from Lovie last year when he started dogging it.
Guys with huge amounts of physical ability coast because it all seems too easy at times. Pep got a rap for that too but he's been a non-stop killer of a player ever since he got to Chicago so I don't know what that was all about before he got here. Maybe is it Lovie. Maybe his guys respect him too much to give anything else but 110%. He's gotten to the point where he not only expects it but demands it or you sit or you're gone.
I seriously don't think Coples would be a problem on the Bears, playing for Lovie, and with his hero Pep playing across from him. Unfortunately I seriously don't think he's gonna last until the #19 pick either and I don't want to see us give up another 2012 pick to trade up for him.
But....I posted this because I wanted people to see just what kind of a physical freak this guy is. Even with a bad rep trailing him Coples has got the goods. You can coach laziness out of him but you can't coach that size, strength, and physical tools into him anymore than you can coach tall and fast into Stephen Hill. It's either there or it isn't.

Said it before and I will say it again, Quinton Coples is the only player I would make a big trade up to draft. Fuck all the noise about his effort this year, kid made every OT at the SB look like a high schooler, save Mike Adams who still was having fits keeping himself square on him. If it's true that the Bills are looking hard at him, that front seven would go from blah to truly fearsome in one offseason.

It wouldn't have been the first time that players have fallen.

I still don't trade up for him unless we have a plan for how to do it without hurting ourselves elsewhere. Now, maybe this is where a trade off of getting a pick for Forte can parley into us actually getting an MWill DE. If we can get value for Forte high in the draft we can afford to spend a 2nd or a 3rd to move up for him IF he's the guy they want.
I don't rule it out. Emery made bold moves to get our two top needs filled right out of the shoot as FA began and he showed that he's not afraid to give up picks for a guy he wants so anything could happen but if it does I'm betting it will be a draft day thing. JMO

Yeah Zelezo, we got Carimi last year when no one thought we would. Never say never.
