Im not against a DE in the first as long as we can snag ruben randel in 2 just please not Mercilus

Problem is we DO need a number 2 WR more than a backup/situational DE and if Kevin Zeilter is available in round 2 we will probably wait till round 3 to go WR

Since Windy keeps coming up with all kinds of nifty ways to figure out how we'll take a WR in the first round I thought it only fair the I put an equal amount of content up that supports my position.

There are a few articles here from the writers and gurus but most of all I'd like you all to pay attention the the one which says, "Lovie has made is no secret that he's looking to improve the pass rush this offseason".

Did we try? YES TWICE. So did we succeed? NO How many times did we fail? TWICE Does that sound like we're really serious about drafting one then? I DON"T KNOW SOUL BUT I"D PROBABLY SAY YES. Are there a couple of good ones in the first round? YEAH, I GUESS SO.

Has Lovie gone to Mercilus pro day and also interviewed him? YES Is Mercilus a DE/Pass Rusher? YES

Did Lovie got to WVU to watch Bruce Irvin work out and interview him? YES Is Irvin a DE/Pass Rusher? YES

Did Lovie invite Chandler Jones in for an interview? YES Is Jones a DE/Pass Rusher (but not a very good one) YES

I don't know about you guys but the word on the street is that Lovie is interested in pass rusher. Does it seem like that to you guys too?

Well I'm one of those people who say, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, lays eggs, has webb feet, swims around ponds and eats little fishies then I usually admit that it's probably a freakin duck!!!!!

If there are still good pass rusher on the board when we draft we will not take Stephen Hill, Kendall Wight or Michael Floyd with our first round pick unless they can carry at least 260lbs and learn to sacks QB's.

That's my story and I'm stickin' too it.
The only other position in the first round that the Bears will even look at drafting will be WR if not DE. We need players at both positions, and to be perfectly blunt with you, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Bears TRADE UP to get another first round pick near the end of the round and go after a WR then. It would make sense, almost too much sense, for Emery not to take this into account. I think we're going to see some aggressive and possibly even exotic moves made in this draft by Emery because he is more aggressive than Jerry Angelo was.

Any team that takes Coples takes a gamble that his physical skills are so dominant, and they are, that with some good coaching and a team that can squeeze top production out of him, and a team like the Bears could, will end up with a monster DE. There aren't many guys who come out of college with the stuff he brings to the table that bust.

If you watched that video you can see why he so scary. Even if he can't get to the QB the difficulty of throwing over him or even through or around him would be tough for any normal 6'3" QB and even a guy like Joe Flacco at 6'6" would need to alter his release to get it over him. The guy has a vertical higher than a 6'10" NBA Forward.

Mercilus will be a good pass rusher and may eventually turn into a good 3 DE down provided he can keep weight one and handle the run. He's very natural as a pass rusher but not the most instinctive player out there when it comes to run defense. Coples on the other hand is nearly unblockable in nay phase of the game. The only rap on him is his bagging it at times and I think that's because the college game isn't a challenge.

You put him on the Bears with Marinelli coaching him and Lovie demanding his best and then add a guy who he respects like Pep dogging his ass if he doesn't give 110% and he'll be a beast. Better than Mercilus will ever be.

In my opinion, Coples is Julius Peppers v2.0. It's ironic that both players came out of the North Carolina and just both almost identical in size. As far as Mercilis is concerned, I think he could be a solid DE in the NFL, but he will have to work a lot harder to be as productive as Coples will be, provided that Coples lives up to his billing as a physical freak. WalterFootball.com is projecting that Coples will be available with #19 pick and he will go to the Bears, so it is not totally out of the realm of possibility that he won't be taken by us.

That being said, the Bears have taken great interest in Mercilis in the Illinois pro day workouts and I think that there will be a DE taken in the first round. The question, then, is which one - Coples, or Mercilis?

This is a pretty incredible read about DE Bruce Irvin [West Virginia] who the Bears have shown interest in.

I don't say this to try to "convince" anyone about Mercilous, because we are all ametures and even the pro scouts are duped by a handful of guys every year. But from what I see out of Coples, I think there is just as much, if not more of a chance that he busts as well as Mercilous. Keep in mind that I'm an Illini fan, so I could be subconciously allowing my homerism to shine through. I know one thing, Mercilous has no doubts about his motor like Coples does. Whether he has the talent that Coples has is one thing, but in terms of motor, WM will bring it all the time.

Sorry Soul but Coples' play in college left a lot to be desired.

Peppers dominated at the college level and demonstrated that he would be a great DE at the NFL level. If a guy can't elevate his game at the college level, a team should be very concerned about him. Given the Bears really need to hit on this pick at 19, they are better served by going with a more cautious pick. Coples is to DEs what Marvin Austin was to DTs. Very talenetd players who have every excuse in the book as to why they couldn't dominate at the college level.

Emery please stay away from this Coples clown.
