I think talent just makes some of these overrated coaches look good. Any way you slice it at 19 we will have a solid player to choose from many positions.
You'd have to go back to the Tampa days as he's been credited with the development of Simeon Rice and Warren Sapp. But I believe he's been instrumental in Melton's development as well. And as far as his eye for pass rush talent, he's the guy that drafted Cliff Avril in DET.

Chandler Jones is not in the 2nd tier anymore he is going to be a top 25 pick and may pass Coples.
I don't see it Windy. The kid is very raw as a pass rusher and he has nowhere near the freaky physical skills of Coples. I think he can become a good player and I know he's moving up the boards a bit but pass Coples????

I know Lovie had him in but I'd still say he ranks behind Coples and Mercilus on our board. Maybe he's a fall back if others are gone and Lovie doesn't like any of the DT's but Jones is not worth the #19 pick. That's a huge reach from my perspective. He may be Richard Dents size but I don't believe he's the second coming of Richard Dent and he's nowhere near having the natural pass rush skills of JPP. Not even in the same league.

Missed time this season with a knee injury and will need to check out medically.(That should be at least one concern teams will have)

Impression: I love his size and length. But I worry about defensive lineman who play upright, lack a great get off burst and struggle to change directions. I don't see him as a big time pass rusher. But if he improves his pad level he could mature into a potential starting option. (And that should be another concern)

I'm not saying that he may not make a team and start someday but he's not gonna come in and be a day one difference maker and as far as a pass rusher goes that's what we need.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

    He is raw.

But this guy is screaming up draft boards right now. I am not advocating him over Coples, but that seems to be the way things are moving.

Mayock said he would not draft Coples, period.

Mercilus reminds me of alot of Richard Dent. Long arms. Doesn't look like he's playing hard then all of a sudden he's causing a fumble or smacking a QB around.
