Considering that Webb gave up 12 sacks last season at LT, I doubt seriously that he would have anything but a difficult time beating out Chris Williams, an original 1st Round LT, for the spot in a competition in camp. Sadly, I don't think this will happen because Mike Tice has a boner for Webb the size of Mt. Vesuvius, and anytime someone mentions the struggles of Webb, he explodes. I think we might as well give up and concede that Tice has the man he wants in at LT.

I don't think you sound like a dick at all bruh. Our opinions differ, but so what, but that's what these boards are for. The Bears aren't calling either of us for our opinion. CWilliams went down pretty early on, and EWilliams got a lot of playing time. I think he got better at his run blocking, and I agree with you, as I said above, I do think CWill is the better run blocker. We may differ slightly on the level of difference, but we agree on the basic comparison none the less. But we just flat out disagree about them being anywhere close to similar in pass pro. We're fans, and we see things from a fans perscetive without the benefit of watching game tape over and over and knowing the blocking assignments for each. It's only natural we will observe different things. In terms of EWillaims pass protection ability, we just obviously disagree.

Good post Boochee. This is exactly what I've been thinking and for exactly the same reasons.

Logic says they wouldn't have extended a player like EWill unless they saw some real potential in him. There were a few times last season when he flat blew people up. CWill did play well at OG but he lack the true power in the running game you'd like to see from an OG.

Logic also says that a former 1st round pick at LT should be ready to play LT by now and if not do you want to extend him as an OG when you have players who may be better for your purposes and less expensive? Even though he's added weight and strength CWill is still for the most part a finesse blocker and more of a pulling OG than a power zone blocker.

Webb needs competition and there isn't much to be had in FA and the draft doesn't look like it can produce any immediate help at LT either. They only other OT's we have are Carimi and Horn. Horn is not a LT and if Tice can avoid moving Carimi he will. That leaves CWill as a logical candidate to compete with Webb and it would be nice if it improved the tackle play of both.

If CWill does a good enough job to win the LT spot he can make a lot more money there than he can at OG but still would be a relatively inexpensive guy to extend when compared to LT in general. That allows us to move Webb back to being a swing tackle where I think he'd make a dynamite reserve and a good addition as a third OT in goaline or short yardage situations.

One great thing about this if it comes about that way is that we have both decent talent and youth at OT. Then is we can bring in a draftee to begin to develop I like the way that part of the Oline would look.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I simply don't see us doing anything other than maintaining the status quo with the offensive line this year. Tice has his heart on keeping J'Marcus Webb the LT of the future, and the boy, God love him, can't pass protect worth a shit. He's not quite as bad as OMG, but he pretty close (he can run block somewhat decently). Webb has to go, and if he doesn't and we have another subpar season with pass protection from the left side, then Tice needs to be fired and replaced by someone with common sense.

Webb is nearly as bad as OMG, except that he is a better run blocker. Webb got worse last year as the season wore on. He relied too much on Jay Cutler's ability to move around in and out of the pocket, and he relied on Spaeth and Davis to serve as chip blockers. Webb dominated Jared Allen the first time, but got school in the rematch. That can't happen. If Tice can't see that Webb isn't the answer, then he needs to be fired and replaced. Jeremy Bates would make a better offensive coordinator anyway as far as I'm concerned.
