The Bears have Donta Hightower in for a visit today.

This is an interesting player in my estimations as he could be a SAM LB and a 3rd down pass rusher and could function a lot like Roosevelt Colvin did.

We really don't VJ. Remember we've lost AA and Okoye and both those guys saw playing time last year. Okoye was second only to Melton in his number of snaps. The only experienced DT's we have now are Toe, Melton and Paea and one PS guy, Jordan Miller who was an UDFA. Not enough depth to run our rotation.

I knew if we lost Okoye that DT names would start to appear on our draft prospects list. I thought maybe Cox because Brockers isn't rated to last until #19 but who knows. So many players shuffle around in the last week or two as teams needs become more evident that you can never tell. I don't believe Coples could fall to #19 either but there are those who feel he may.

DT's don't rate as high as DE's so with Cox, Poe and Brockers as the three top guys maybe Brockers slips??? He's got the size to play LDE too and Lovie likes DE's like Izzy and Pep he can move into DT if he wants to and Okoye played some DE last year to so a DT he can move around would be attractive too. That's why I thought maybe Cox would be on their board.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I don't see Hightower as a fit as much as I do others but it just makes good sense to look at all of the prospects who would tend to fall into the range of that #19 pick. As Greg Gabriel pointed out much of this is part of the smokescreen to throw other teams off the track.

It's no secret we want a DE so why not talk to several in order to disguise whoever is tops on the list.

like Melton, Peau and Toenina. I think a DT could be taken later unless a Forte trade were to happen in which case i would bolster up our DE and DT in round 1 and go after the oline in round 2 and then a WR in round 3. Brockers looks interesting but if Coples is there, YOU DONT PASS ON HIM! they said the same things about Peppers and look what happened to him

Pep didn't have that rep coming out of college the "he takes plays off" came later and that's the reason Pep was the #2 overall in his draft and Coples won't be. Other than that to me they have similar skills but Coples still needs to learn to be a better edge rusher.

Coples and Brockers are probably the two most potentially physically dominating prospects at their respective positions but both will need to get better as NFL pass rushers. That's not uncommon but Marinelli is just the guy to help with that. Think Colples = Pep and Brockers = Richard Seymour. We really couldn't go far wrong with either. I just don't think there's any chance Coples will slip as far as #19 and I think there's only a 50-50 chance at best that Brockers does. It just hard to ignore physical skills like those two have. You can't build that into a guy.

    Brad Biggs tweet: Brad Biggs

Who will #Bears draft in 1st round? One scout I trust is 2 for 2 with their picks the last 2 years. Pegged Major Wright in ’10 and Gabe Carimi in ’11. So, I texted him and asked who he project as Phil Emery’s first pick as GM? He responded, "Quinton Coples if he falls!" If the UNC defensive end doesn’t fall he offered a backup plan. Says Clemson DE Andre Branch would be good fit and likely pick by Bears. Remember, this guy nailed 75th overall pick in 2010 and 29th pick last year. We’ll see soon.

I guess me initial reaction to Andre Branch is tainted by the fact that Clemson DEs have not had a ton of success.

But he is what we need and has some dominant tape to look at. To me him and Mercilus are very similar in terms of the upside and risk.

But he says Coples if he falls, he does not really say that Andre Branch is going to be the guy.

And I do not know how much value is in a guy who predicted Angelo picks nor predicting Emery picks.

Well, can we trade down a bit and still get Andre Branch? If we were gonna pick up ANYBODY, I want them to have value at their position so if we can trade down and still pick him up, I'd be all for that.

You don't take Branch over Mercilus with the #19 pick. At least I wouldn't. As a trade down if the other guys you want aren't there maybe but I just don't think he's as NFL ready as a pass rusher as Mercilus.

Report: Reiff may slip to late 1st or 2nd rd

Sources tell Sporting News' Russ Lande that NFL teams are not nearly as high on Iowa OT Riley Reiff as the media, and that Reiff could fall "toward the bottom of the first round" or even into the second.

It would be a fall similar to Reiff's former Iowa teammate Bryan Bulaga, who was widely projected as a top-ten or even top-five pick before the Packers stole him at No. 23. (Bulaga is now one of the league's premier right tackles.) Per Lande, NFL teams question Reiff's athleticism, and it's no secret he has relatively short arms. We're still not so sure he'd get by Arizona at No. 13.
