He can mirror in space, but struggles to stick through contact and isn't real heavy handed. Looks like a finesse tackle who will get over drafted because of athletic talent, but is going to have a hard time keeping the edge clean at the next level.
Wow. That's by far the farthest I've seen Martin fall in a mock.

I doubt we will retain all 3 of our FA OGs next year (Spencer may be the out guy) and Garza will prob be gone the year after that, so it's not like we are "overstocked".

I also would like to see Emery grab an OT to develop in the latter draft, if they see someone they like.
That line would actually be pretty formidable compared to what we've been used to seeing out of the Bears' offensive line. I would say that the run blocking would improve dramatically, but more so than that, the pass blocking would definitely improve. However, I doubt seriously that we'll see Chris Williams get moved back over to LT because Mike Tice seems to have a boner for him playing LT over two much more polished linemen (Carimi and Chris Williams).

If Webb wins the job fair and square over CW, then so be it. Nothing lost there over what we have now. I just want to see some realistic competition before handing Webb the job. And it would be wise to see what we really have in CW since he's a free agent next year. And a draft of...

    Mercilus DE
    Zeitler OG
    Reyes DT
    Childs WR

    ...would be pretty damn good.

I don't think that we'll have to worry about Webb winning the job unless he's improved into some kind of dynamic LT over the off season. Chris Williams is, by nature, a strong OT, and I really don't think that he will have as much trouble as some people think of bumping Webb into a supporting role. I hope we can fix this up to where we can eventually draft or sign a better backup swing tackle so that we can cut Webb. He is simply the worst tackle in the NFL right now other than maybe OMG.

True dat on both counts. Guys like Webb need to be pushed to a higher level and aside from shifting Carimi to LT CWill is the only other guy with enough career experience at LT to make the shift. He played well at LG but he'll always be more of a finesse type than the "beasts" Tice seems to prefer as his OG's. He seems to want "road graders" and not "ATV,s" playing OG. CWill's best attribute is his abilty to pull and lead. He's not a great "earth mover" in one and one blocking and you don't finesse a guy like Raji or Kevin Williams and we see those guys 4 games every year.

I think the problem we have with Webb and CWill is that we have a 1/2 LT each there and one or the other needs to get to at least a 3/4 LT this year and the other becomes a swing guy. Both have played LT and both have played RT so what I'm saying is logical. If they can't handle it then and only then am I in favor or shifting Carimi over there for a year. Then we put either of the other two at RT and move Louis back to OG. Sorry guys but anyone who thought he did OK at RT needs to go back and watch the KC game. He got chewed up and spit out in that one and he wasn't dominant in any other game either. He gets in peoples way as much as anything else but he's not a natural OT.

I agree with you, soul. And I'll add one other caveat as food for thought. Chris Williams played fairly well at LT when he was still manning the the position. Webb hasn't master nor come close to mastering any position along the line, and it's pretty evident that unless he really develops this off season, he won't do so well again this year either. Do we even know whether or not Tice is actually going to try to slide Chris Williams over to play LT in order to compete with Webb? It seems so unlike Tice to do anything other than back the great J'Marcus Webb.

Right on target, Dags & Soul. There's been no open and shut statements from the team about a CW vs. Webb LT competition. But it does make sense and can be inferred a little bit.

    1) There's been no good OT options in FA and the draft doesn't hold out much hope there either.

    2) No matter how much "confidence" Tice expresses in Webb, everyone knows he needs to earn the job in TC. He's by no means a clear starter.

    3) Its been made clear that they dont want to move Carimi, but the same hasn't been said for CW.

    4) OG "insurance" was just added (more possible in the draft as well). Would have been far less necessary if CW was expected to play purely LG.

    5) CW is entering his final year before FA. Hello, MOTIVATION!!! He would earn himself a far more lucrative deal next year If he can demonstrate competence at LT rather than just LG.

All this points to a logical competition for LT between the two in TC/PS. I hope I'm not extrapolating too much and over-assuming but even Tice surely must know that Webb can't just be "crowned" at LT with his problems last year. Jmo

I would agree with the highlighted area, but there's one thing to consider from back last year when talking about the backlogging of G's/C's: we kept and used virtually every one of them in some form or fashion at one time or another. In fact, we even used Lance Louis at RT, which turned into a miserable disaster by the last quarter of the season. These guys are being used as swing linemen for patchwork purposes as much as anything else.

Still, I don't know if Tice and Lovie would allow Chris Williams to move over to LT simply because it's a contract year. You know how Lovie is when it comes to the concept of team unity - he expects everyone to tow the line and play the roles that they are assigned. I just don't see Tice allowing anyone to compete with Webb for the LT spot, but we'll see when Training Camp gets here.
