You may be right but I hope you are wrong. It's not like Webb has obviously "earned the job". It would be completely stupid to just hand it to him without the guy who was actually drafted to play the position not even being give a shot to compete.

The sad thing is that Carimi has not done anything to warrant any major applause. Hell, he was injured by the second game, and if he gets injured again this season, you can reasonably assume that he will be on his way to becoming a bust due to health reasons. It's disturbing to think that almost all of Jerry Angelo's old picks in the first few rounds of previous drafts have turned out to be big busts, but that's the hand that this franchise has been dealt, and so far, I think the Bears have handled that hand dealt them remarkably well, all things considered.
We can throw Chris Williams in to compete with Webb, but he's already shown he can't be a LT. I like how he played at Guard last year and maybe that's where they should concentrate on having him so we can at least salvage something from the '08 draft. I mean we picked him at #14. Let's make the most of the situation considering he can move real well for a guy who his 6'6.

Who knows Dags. Tice backs him with his statements but Lovie has hinted about trying new things. It makes sense that he goes into camp as the starter but it also makes sense to see what we have in CWill. Will he ever be a starting NFL OT or not. With his contract up this year I think it's about time we found out.
We'll know more after the draft. From Emery comments I'd say they haven't found any OT's who thrill them but he did mention OT's who can make the move to OG. Jeff Allen from Illinois being on example of that and of course there's Cordy Glenn too. If we draft an OG early I think that's a sign of what we might expect as far as the CWill vs Webb scenario is concerned.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
Honey Badger Don't Care. Honey Badger Don't Give a Shit.

I will confess that I didn't have the NFL Sunday Ticket to watch Bears' games in 2008 and 2009, so I am basing this all on heresay. From what I have heard, Chris Williams played fairly well at LT. Is that accurate or not? I don't know. Most of the times I watched the Bears on national TV, he was out with an injury. I don't know if Chris Williams is even reliable enough health-wise to renew his contract after this year. He has yet to play a full season, after all.

There is almost no way in hell that the Bears will draft an OLman in the first round. Tice, the OL Czar, has deemed it not to be. Webb so desperately needs competition at LT, but who's around to give it to him? We already know that Chris Williams is probably going to stay put at LG this season because of Tice and Lovie deeming it to be so. I just don't think we're going to see any major changes along the offensive line because Tice has an itching still to prove himself as a coach who had prior experience at working with offensive lines.
I think you could say "fairly well." He wasn't spectacular but held his own at times. With the faster pash rushers he got worked over pretty good though. I think that's what really got the Bears looking for another LT, given how much faster today's pash rushers are. The broken wrist really was a bummer. Thankfully though, he hasn't had any recurring back issues of late. Its going to be interesting to see if CWill takes some kind of starting spot this year.
We have so many guys in the mix right now and who knows who we're going to add through the draft. I like the way the Bears are stock piling lineman right now. Its going to be a very competitive training camp.

The one lingering concern I have about the stockpiling of offensive linemen is that so far, none of them have been tackles. We've signed Rachal, but he is a guard, and that's about the extent of who I know we've signed. (Correct me if I left out any others.) But yes, I agree wholeheartedly that this is going to be a very competitive training camp for all parties involved at all positions.
I agree with you. Not sure why they are bringing in so many guards. We're overloaded at that spot. While I like bringing in young, veteran bodies...we're not adding any bodies at the Tackle spot. So not sure if Emery has something up his sleeve on draft day. Guess we'll know in a few days.
