    Mock Draft #1

I've been wanting to do one of these but have been way to busy not to mention I have no idea what we are going to do so here are some picks I think can help our beloved. I think there is a good chance we trade down but for now I'll keep it simple. No trades.

    Round 1

With all the moves we have made so far in FA I think this has to be a DE/DT, whichever we have rated higher on our board that is still available. I'm a little afraid we might reach for an OT here but so far I like what Emery has done so I'll trust that he doesn't.

With the 19th pick in the 2012 NFL draft the Chicago Bears select Whitney Mercilus, DE Illinois.

Ultimate Whitney Mercilus Highlights - YouTube

I'd rather have Coples but we would more than likely have to trade up or trade Forte to get him so I don't see that happening. I also think Brockers will be off the board as well. So that leaves Mercilus or a trade down & this is a no trade mock. Mercilus fits under the "one year wonder" category but 16 sacks ain't too shabby & 9 FF is unheard of. I think he is just scratching the surface of how good he will be & Marinelli (SP?) is going to love this kid. Great athlete & a hard worker. QBs will be begging for mercy everytime they see Mercilus coming. Great football name.

    Round 2

Alright we helped our pass rush so it's time to get someone who can keep Culter upright. This is a really tough with alot of good OG, DT, WR & DBs worthy of this pick. A guy I really like is Amini Silatolu, OG from Midwestern St & if I knew we were going to move Williams to OT he would be my pick. But I don't & I think OT is a bigger need. So for me it came down to Bobby Massie, OT from Mississippi or Jeff Allen, OT/OG from Illinois.

With the 50th pick in the 2012 NFL draft the Chicago Bears select Jeff Allen, OT/OG Illinois.

NFL Draft Preview: Jeff Allen - YouTube

Honestly I'd be happy with any of these (3) guys. The word on this kid is he doesn't look like a OT should look but he has great balance, doesn't over extend (See Jamarcus Webb), stays on his feet & is very football smart. Plus he is very versatile & Tice likes OL than can play multiple positions. I'm also adding a link for Amini Silatolu (Amini Silatolu Highlights - YouTube) because the guy is a beast!

    Round 3

Now we've addressed both lines so what's a greater need? A DB to help with all those 4 WR sets the Packers & Lions use? A WR to compliment Marshall? Or do we go after another pass rusher, like Bruce Irwin?

With the 79th pick in the 2012 NFL draft the Chicago Bears select Brian Quick, WR Appalachian St.

Ultimate Brian Quick Highlights - YouTube

This kid has as much potential as any WR in the draft & would be a steal here if he's still available. Big, fast, athletic & good hands. The only knock on him his he's raw. This is a pick that we will all like this year but 2-3 years down the road we will love it!

    Round 4

Time to address the defense. LB or DB? Tough call. We signed Hayden at CB & Hayes at LB.

So, with the 111th pick in the 2012 NFL draft the Chicago Bears select Nigel Bradham, LB Florida St.

FSU LB Nigel Bradham Senior Season Highlights - YouTube

Explosive, hard hitting LB. Very athletic. Supplies depth & eventual starter. Tough, durable & loves to play. Special teams monster until he earns a starting role.

    Round 5

Time for some secondary help. CB or Safety? How about both.

With the 150th pick in the 2012 NFL draft the Chicago Bears select Brandon Hardin, S/CB Oregon St.

Huge Hit Oregon State vs USC - YouTube

6'2" 222LBS. Another athletic player who can play corner or safety. He falls this far due to a shoulder injury that caused him to miss all 2011. Also another good character guy. I also like Brandon Taylor LSU SS here but I think he'll be off the board.

    Round 6

More help in the defense backfield is the way I see it. How about another guy who can play CB/S.

With the 184th pick of the 2012 NFL draft the Chicago Bears select Ryan Steed, CB/SS Furman.

Ryan Steed #1 Cornerback Furman Highlight Tape Part 1 - YouTube

Small school DB. Could size 6' 195lbs. Good tackler. 14 career ints. Taylor made for the cover 2.

    Round 7

I like Clutz some but Forte &/or Bush could use another lead blocker.
With the 220th pick in the 2012 NFL draft the Chicago Bears select Chad Diehl, FB Clemson.

    Chad Diehl Highlights - YouTube

Classic fullback. 6'2" 257lbs. Good blocker, not much in the way of running the ball.

Alright. There ya go sports fans. That took alot longer than I thought it would. It's way past my bedtime!
    Go Bears!

That's an excellent mock. I wouldn't mind seeing a solid DT prospect in there instead of two DBs but that would be a very solid draft!

Thanks MP. I thought about that but I struggled to find the right one. Kiper thinks Devon Still might fall to us in rd 3. That would be a steal IMHO.

Wow, Illini players going 1 and 2, are you sure? JK, I would be more than happy with this draft. Well done Jimmy.

Thanks 4Da. I thought about the 1st 2 picks being Illini when I was figuring what WR to take & thought about A.J. Jenkins. Lol

I don't see Still lasting until round three. Heck, I used to see him going in or around the top 10.

Yeah, neither do I. But if he did he would be a steal at that point.

Only thing is maybe trying to get zeilter in round 2 his history and chemistry with Carimi cant be overlooked

And could we really grab Quick in the thrid? I think he could be a real good player for us.

Yeah, true. What about a sleeper DT whose name keeps popping up...Derek Wolfe of U. of Cincy? He seems to be a below-the-radar guy who could be developed into a solid rotational player. Draftable in the 4th?

Reyes may be Draftable still in the 3rd in addition to Still. Lot of options. But I love your strategy of going LINES in 1-2 and getting good value with Quick at WR in 3. No need to overshoot in panic to reach for a WR earlier. There will be "big target" options for us as late as the 4th IMO and Quick is one of my favs as a mid-draft red zone weapon guy.
