Webb, and overall LT position official thread
This comes up in almost every thread so I wanted to make it its own.
I want options in camp this was always our problem is that we have never really had options with our o line not just give up on a young Webb but dont go all in with him
I dont think Webb is hopless but we need competition and another option
My personal favorite is to draft Zeilter in 2 OR konz on a trade down to net a pick or 2 more
If Zeilter: let him and lewis compete for G and move CWill to compete for LT (why we drafted him)
Konz: let him start at C bumping Garza back to his true spot at G and again CWill and and Webb fight for LT
Notethat if reitif (sp) falls to 19 then we throw out our draft plans take him and hes our LT competition
Not having a true "franchise" LT is kinda like having a revolving door at qb or mlb we need consistancy and quality
Thoughts?

I heartily agree. I'm not yet ready to say "Webb is hopeless, cut him" but I strongly believe he needs legit competition/pushing.
99% chance is that OT competition won't come (directly anyway) from the draft or FA. Let's be honest--simply isn't gonna happen that way.
It needs to come from within the roster and the most logical place is via CW as you stated. Drafting a starting-capable OG/C would give you 5-6 players to compete for 3 interior OL spots and backup positions, while moving CW back to OT.
Either CW or Webb would make a capable backup OT (upgrade over Omiyale either way) and the winner starts at LT opposite Gabe. This is as obvious as having Bennett play flanker opposite Marshall and using Hester in the slot...which the team also needs to commit to. We will see if the coaching staff can stop being pig-headed and start thinking outside the box better.

Webb has all the tools to be a very good LT. I think most Bears fans are going to feel dumb when they see how much he improves this year. A lot of our younger players are going to look good this year with all the experience they gained last year. When its all said and done, we'll be swinging from Tice's nuts after seeing the finished product.

I wonder how Tice feels about. LOL
I hope you are right about Webb & admire your faith or appreciate your insight whichever works. BBPB.

Here's why I have the optimism that I do. Right from the horse's mouth my man:
Mike Tice Says J'Marcus Webb Is Starting LT For Chicago Bears Moving Forward - SB Nation Chicago
"I thought he was adequate. His consistency grade was actually solid. What grade was bad was the critical errors, the sacks, penalties...Well, if you're not always in the deep drops, if you're making sure the guy gets chip help from a back or a tight end and if you change the release point of the quarterback, you're going to make him better already without making him better."
"And then you have an entire offseason (with) a chance to make him better there. He is a very good run blocker. Do I think he is a guy moving forward? Yes, I do unless some miracle happens and an elite first-round draft pick that we couldn't pass up fell in our lap, which I doubt. Yeah, he's our guy moving forward."
If the Bears and Tice felt that Webb couldn't handle the LT spot, then they would have pulled the plug on this project. Its too important of a position to be playing around with every year. And the Bears do not seem like they are going to be drafting a tackle in RD 1, unless Emery has us all fooled. I have confidence that the kid will be much better with a full offseason, unlike last year.

Again, I hope Tice is on the money about Webb. The "I wonder how Tice feels about that" was a JK response to ball swinging. My thinking is Webb needs to get better or needs to go. Cutler is WAY to valuable to this team to not have an at the very least servicable LT. JMHO my friend.

Q Mitchell and OMG weren't Tice picks or protege's mo and I think Webb shows more promise than that. If Tice thinks he can make an NFL LT out of the kid I'll at least give him this summer to see what he can do in camp and preseason to improve of his screwups. Playing LT in a Mike Martz offense probably won't win you much pro-bowl recognition unless you're a future HOF'er named Pace.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
