To be honest Bipolar, I don't think there is anyone outside of the top 5 that DOES inspire a ton of confidence. At least not for me. It seems they ALL have question marks. If you take your first sentence:

"Am I the only one that wouldn't be thrilled with Mercilus as the pick"

    and changed it to read:

"Am I the only one that wouldn't be thrilled with Coples as the pick"

Then you have my thoughts as well. Coples has world beater talent, but there have been a lot of guys that had that talent and could not get their mind right to match the physical talent. Coples scares the hell outta me with a first round pick because if he can't get himself up this past season in order to GET his payday, then what will he be like AFTER he gets it. I don't know man, there is a part of me that thinks Mercilus is actually a safer pick, even though he has only one year of production, but I certainly share your concern there as well.

I want guys that wanna play football all the time, every play. I know people point to Peppers as an example of what Coples could be as he had some of the same attitude coming out. That could have merit or it may not. They are two completely different people. I'll be happy as a fan to welcome anyone we pick.

I think it was Jeff Dickerson that said that Marinelli really likes Mercilus because he is relentless and has a non stop motor.

That is the reason I like Mercilus and also Branch, both those guys never stopr running and pursuing the play. Those are the type of guys who make plays and have an impact.

Mercilus also had something like 9 caused fumbles last year, and we know how important those are in the Cover 2.

Sounds like Mercilus is the consensus pick...

Now I expect him to get picked moments before we pick.

    Prediction:
    NYJ pick Mercilus at 16
CHI settles for Martin or Kirkpatrick

I really hope we don't settle for Martin, since we're fairly certain that Tice doesn't want him.

I am more enamored with the concept of drafting Coples, Mercilus, Jones, or Perry. If Jonathan Martin lasts until the second round, I'm all over that pick, because I really don't see the need of drafting another G. What we need is at least one more OT, and Martin could come in and challenge Webb for the job right away. I know that some of you people, particularly soulman, will want to shoot me for this, but I think Martin would give Webb all he can handle in an open competition for the LT position. JMHO.

LOL . Man stuff gets soooo funny sometimes. The Martin hatefest is one of them. He was Stanford's starter for 3 years - protecting the blindside of Andrew Luck the golden child. If he hadn't been up to the task, I think they would have replaced him PDQ. And he more than held his own in the Pac 10 ( which is as good a conference as there are ) yet these scouts act like there's some magical conference somewhere, where the humans are 8 inches taller and 50lbs heavier that he hasn't gone up against yet. And ... apparently there are only 3 LT's in all of college football . All the rest are gonna hafta be RT's or guards.
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?

    A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?
