You know, I have always wondered about that, why scouts think that only one or two tackles per draft believe that there are only one, maybe two, tackles that are capable of playing LT in the NFL. We all thought for certain that Carimi would be used as the LT, but for some reason, Tice believed that Webb was the better fit for the position. Pardon me, but why did the Bears draft Webb in the seventh round? He wasn't even supposed to start as a rookie, yet he's going on into his third year as a starting lineman, and his second at LT.
So now his learning curve should flatten and he should begin to make some progress visa via the "3rd year rule" and if he doesn't then we'll know the experiment has failed and he may end up being replaced before the season is through. If there's no improvement Tice can only back the guy for so long before he has to admit he has another OMG on his hands.

This kid isn't signed to a 5 year deal so he's no tatoo. He can be removed pretty easily just as long as we have another viable option for replacing him and that will probably need to come from within. Unless we draft someone who can beat him out (unlikely) or we sign a vet who can (even more unlikely) it's run what ya' brung time at LT.

I don't see it ... I just don't think his feet are good enough, so yeah I've dumped on him alot. He's the one player I'm hoping I'm wrong about, the one guy I hope really improves ... somehow.

All I know is they need to draft a LT in this draft. I don't care if it's Martin in the 1st or second round or Potter in the 5th. They gotta draft somebody who can step in if he falters. All I've heard about my whole life is that O-lines need cohesiveness to suceed. If Webb proves he can't do it .... then here we go again with the line shuffeling , in mid-season.
This is really where you and I disagree brother. Drafting a LT prospect is a very good idea, I agree. Expecting him to step and and do better if Webb doesn't improve is where we disagree. The likelihood of that is very slim. Even if we were to draft Martin and regardless of what he did in college he may not do any better as a rookie in the NFL than most other rookie OT's do. There is no guarantee that will fix the problem.

We would have a better chance of dealing with his potential failure by getting either CWill or Carimi prepared to play LT. Both played LT in college too and at least they have some NFL experience under their belts albeit in Carimi's case very little. I'm still not certain CWill can handle it for some of the same reasons I don't like Martin but I'm very sure Carimi could if he got some work prepping for it.

Like I said, if we draft any OT who can come in and handle Jared Allen and give up less sacks than Webb did last year I'll humbly admit that I was wrong but I just don't see that happening so far.

Man i feel guilty buy I am hoping that Matt Forte gets traded for a 1st round pick, I think the world of Forte and think his best bet in the NFL is to stay a Bear, but I get sick of the contract issues.

Exactly, soul. I just don't think that Webb is going to learn much past this year because he's only gotten worse at blocking with each year despite the change along the line. Giving up twelve sacks is unacceptable, and I think it's high time that Tice get down to it, or be gone too.
