Bears backup RB Bell signs 1-year tender offer

Chicago Bears backup running back Kahlil Bell re-signed with the club on Wednesday.

Bell signed the low tender offer worth $1.26 million over one season, as opposed to a long-term deal. The Bears tendered a qualifying offer to the veteran back in March.

Bell broke the news on his Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon.

"Just re-sign[ed] with the Bears today going on year number 4!!! God is so great. Blessed beyond belief!!!"

Bell appeared in 13 games with the Bears last season, including three starts, and rushed for 337 yards.

Thanks lb. Yeah, Bell said he would sign after the period for making offers to RFA's ended. I don't blame him for waiting to see if someone would make him an offer for a longer term deal but I'm glad no one did.

I've liked this kid and the way he runs ever since I saw him in his first game as a Bear. Shoot when you break your first run as a pro for over 70 yards that alone sets up some anticipation over what can he do when he's given more shots. He's good north/south back with some power for his size and I'm glad he's still with us. Comes right down to it we may need him more than we think.

good news. strengthens our hand with Forte too

Good move for Bell. just before draft, it makes sense for him. if we only had Bush signed up he had to be thinking that Emery may take a late round flyer on a Boom Herron or someone. Not necessarily likely and i'm not saying Herron is all that but from Bell's perspective he's wise to sign now, its not like the kid has been paid yet and like Soul says, he may see more of the field than he'd expect this year.....

I like Bell a lot too. He is a very good complimentary back and I think he's going to get better and better and shock us with how much production he gives us in a limited role.

The only weakness to his game was his propensity to fumble. That is it. He's solid in every other conceivable way. He's a solid number two or number three back. As has been said by several people in this thread, he may be called upon a lot depending on what transpires with the Forte deadlock.

That's great news. He is a great backup. As a #3 RB, I think he is one of the best. Whenever Cutler hands him the ball, he just needs to staple the damn thing to his hands.If Forte comes back, we have the best stable of RBs in the league. I also believe in cutting against the grain. With the focus on passing, most of the defenive focus is rightly going towards being able to disrupt the pass - specifically DE, DT CB, etc. That usually means that when focus is placed on one thing, something else suffers (human nature). I think that stopping the run has moved down the chain of priorities and while it is still important, most defensive resources are being spent on stopping the pass. I really think this gives us an edge as teams are not so much beuilding their defenses to stuff the run as much as they used to. With the three guys we have (and now a real passing attack - as long as Cutler can stay upright), having these three guys rotating will give some teams a hard time.Of course having said all of this means that Forte will be traded tomorrow....
