Chicago Bears ROund 7 Pick 13 (220) Bears select CB Greg McCoy

Positives -- Decent size for a nickle cornerback at the next level... Plays better in off coverage, which allows him to read and react... When he sees the play develop, he has a better ability to read routes and make plays... Takes good angles to the football when reading the football... Is quick in short areas, and is able to make plays on the ball... Looks better on the inside of the formation, he has the ability to play man coverage in close quarters... His real value lies in his kick return abilities, ranked sixth in the nation with a 30.6 average per return in 2011, including two touchdowns; was named the Mountain West Conference's special teams player of the year and selected to the All-American team as a return specialist by CBS and Yahoo!... Recorded a second quarter interception in the Poinsettia Bowl and was named defensive player of the game as TCU came back to beat Louisiana Tech.

Negatives -- His size will come into question, especially when it comes to bigger wide receivers... In coverage, has a hard time flipping his hips and getting vertical with the man he is covering... Has good speed, but doesn't have that extra gear to get on top of receivers... Against faster competition, he will have to improve his technique or he will be beaten over the top with ease... Allows receivers get inside and has trouble keeping up with them after the snap of the ball... Has a hard time setting the edge in run support, and can be moved off his spot at will... His tackling is below average due to lack of strength... Was solid as the collegiate level, but bigger and faster players might prove too much in the NFL... Has to prove that he can contribute in the secondary because he won't last long at the next level as just a return specialist.

At Texas Christian -- (Official School Bio) 2011: A CBSSports.com and Yahoo! Sports first-team All-American at kick returner... tabbed by Phil Steele Publications as a second-team All-American... Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Year... first-team All-MW selection as a kick returner and an honorable-mention pick at cornerback... Poinsettia Bowl Defensive Most Valuable Player in the 31-24 victory over Louisiana Tech... his interception and 24-yard return late in the second quarter set up a game-tying TCU touchdown... added two stops and two pass breakups in the game... totaled 32 tackles on the season... had a TCU-high seven pass breakups while tying for the team lead with two interceptions... collected a career-high eight tackles, seven solo, and a fumble recovery in the win at Boise State... grabbed an interception to go with three tackles against SMU... his seven career picks led all active Horned Frogs in 2011... started all 13 games, registering a tackle in 11 contests... led the Mountain West and ranked sixth nationally in kickoff return average at 30.6 yards... returned a kick 94 yards for a touchdown to begin the second half against Louisiana-Monroe, marking the first for TCU to begin the second half since 2005... also enjoyed a 99-yard kickoff return for a score against UNLV... had the second- and third-longest kickoff returns in 11 seasons under head Gary Patterson, surpassed only by Cory Rodgers' 100-yard effort at BYU in 2005... totaled a TCU single-game record 229 kickoff return yards on six attempts (38.2 avg.) against Baylor, highlighted by 73- and 68-yard efforts to set up TCU scores... averaged 35.3 yards per return at Wyoming, taking three kicks for 106 yards... two-time MW Special Teams Player of the Week honoree after his performances against Louisiana-Monroe and Baylor... named "Best Athlete in the Mountain West" by Sporting News in the preseason.

Another cornerback. Don't know anything about him. Draft is over, which means no help at DT and LB.

Yeah, I was also hoping for help at DT and wishing for a LT or G that could help.

Well, hopefully we got a few good ones in there.

Grades out highly with chase tackles
    Good vision; finds ballcarrier

    Strong; active hands

    Weaknesses:

Lacks some bulk to be a two-gap defensive tackle
Not a fit for every scheme
    Not an elite run defender
Struggles against massive offensive linemen against run
    Not overly powerful

Summary: McCoy is an amazing prospect and simply great at what he is - a three technique. He isn't going to be Vince Wilfork, and 3-4 teams won't target him. He will fit most 4-3 schemes looking for an elite pass rusher and someone who can disrupt opponents' backfields. He has elite intangibles and should be a definite top-10 pick. McCoy is my No. 1 defensive tackle for the 2010 NFL Draft.

Emery you are either a genius or completely retarded for drafting a CB to play DT!!! :D

I think we need an oversized "SHRUG" smilie for this one. Sounds like a potential water boy. According to this report about the only thing he may do well is tie his shoes.

    GREG MCCOY CB, Texas Christian

    • 2011 GRADE: 5.3 HT: 5-10 WT: 181

A average sized corner with no real standout physical quality to his game. Isn't real technically sound in his drop, doesn't sit real low and doesn't look comfortable extending his arms and pressing off the line. Is at his best in off coverage where he can feel routes develop around him and use his solid straight-line speed to close on the football. Isn't real balanced off the line though, has a tendency to open up the gate prematurely, lacks the type of quickness to routinely mirror and will give up initial separation. Showcases the ability to quickly collect himself and possesses average play speed when asked to make up for a false step. Takes good angles towards the football, will undercut routes and plays well in a trail technique. However, isn't the type of dynamic athlete to do the same in the NFL.

Looks a little tight when asked to transition to turn and run with receivers down the field. Struggles to reach top end speed quickly and needs a couple steps to reach his second gear down the field. At times can get away with it at the college level, but vs. better competition will be susceptible to allowing receivers to easily get behind him. Isn't a major threat in the run game, works hard to set the edge, but doesn't have the strength to routinely fight off blocks. At best is an average tackler for his size, but certainly not a "plus" in that area.

Impression: Have seen some slower receivers get behind him with ease, he is going to have a tough time keeping pace with NFL caliber wide outs at the next level.

Emery likes to surprise opponents. He will do well here. No one is going to expect a 5'10" DT to line up against the offensive guards. Nice move!

I wish. We have him on tape. He uses the velcro type shoes.

Well with that and some good coaching he's bound to be a future all-pro.
