Ronnie Cameron, DT, Old Dominion - Chicago Bears

    http://www.nepatriotsdraft.com/2012-...ed-free-agents

Active, highly productive, high-motor three-technique who racked up linebacker-like tackle production, including 36 stops behind the line, in two seasons at ODU. Disruptive and instinctive — quick off the snap to knife gaps. Locates the ball, chases hard and ranges, showing nice balance and athleticism. Marginal competition. Needs to play with more consistent pad level, get stronger and incorporate more power into his game. Outstanding personal and football character — very intelligent and mature and is well-respected by teammates and coaches for his leadership and work habits. Ordinary measurables hurt his draft stock, but he is a better football player than tester, as his combination of impressive tape, production and intangibles will make him a coveted free agent if he is not drafted. Type you root for who will be successful no matter what he does in life.

Did Billy Winn get taken anywhere?

Scott Wedige, OL, Northern Illinois - Chicago Bears

    Scott Wedige, C, Northern Illinois
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 314.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.18.
    Projected Round (2012): 6-7.
4/24/12: Wedige did a good job of blocking for Chandler Harnish in 2011 and has improved his draft stock. Wedige was not at the Scouting Combine.

8/20/11: Scott Wedige had an excellent debut as the starting center last season. He was an All-MAC first-teamer in 2010. Wedige was a very good pass blocker last season and Northern Illinois allowed less than a sack per game.

Adding to this; Looks like a suspect at UT and we needed one.

    RONNIE CAMERON DT, Old Dominion

    • 2011 GRADE: 5.5 HT: 6-2 WT: 299

Is a strong looking kid with some natural athleticism and bend to his game. Has a good first step and when he keeps his pad level down can be powerful on contact and maintain his balance when asked to shed blocks. At times gets lazy, his pad level will rise and he's easy to block inside. Can be tough to move off the football as well vs. the run game, and has the ability to gain a step as a one-gap guy and get up the field.

Impression: Flashed a nice combination of size/power and athleticism at the Players All Star classic. There are some inconsistencies to his game in terms of pad level, but looks like a camp invite for a one-gap scheme.

Wedige sounds most interesting. I wonder if he could make the roster in much the same fashion that Jay Hilgenberg did back in the 80s?

I doubt any interior OL stood a chance at cracking our roster before the Rachal signing, with him in-house I'm sure of it. PS is a nice place to keep developing OL.

Hey sox in your opinion what makes some of these guys cross over to becoming undrafted as opposed to late round picks? I guess specifically why draft a guys like McCoy in the 7th when our need for an UT like Cameron was obviously much greater? What separates these guys from a scouting and personnel perspective this late in the game?

To me a nearly perfect sized UT with Cameron's productivity trumps and undersized CB whose main claim to fame is as a nationally ranked return man.
