Cliff Stein has a reputation for getting contracts done in quick order for Chicago Bears draft picks, and that held true Wednesday with word that wide receiver Alshon Jeffery has agreed to terms on a contract.
Jeffery, a second-round pick out of South Carolina, received a four-year deal. While the exact amount of the contract is not known, the deals are pretty much slotted now. He’s probably getting close to what the Denver Broncos gave safety Rahim Moore, the 45th pick in the 2011 draft, a year ago. Moore received a four-year, $4.448 million contract. The deal included a $1.73 million signing bonus.
The Bears’ rookie salary-cap pool is $4,189,971. The deals for the team’s six draft picks cannot exceed $23,044,841.
Defensive end Shea McClellin was the first-round pick, 19th overall. Interestingly, the 19th pick last year was the final first-round pick to sign a contract. New York Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara received a four-year deal worth $8.1809. There were negotiations over how much of the deal would be guaranteed. He wound up getting the entire first three years and about half of the fourth year guaranteed.
With Jeffery in the fold, the Bears have five more rookie contracts to complete.

good, McClellin will be next.

Yeah, we waste no time getting them under contract and we've pretty much done that for years. It should be even easier now that the size of the rookie deals is so much smaller than it was. Now they can only battle over a few hundred thousand, not millions, and the amount to be guaranteed.
Instead of huge upfront bonuses as before now the trend is to pay a smaller bonus and guarantee most if not all of the contract as the example of Amukamara's deal indicates. Carimi's deal last year was for $7 mil and change over 4 years so I would guess that right around $8 mil over 4 years is about where McClellin will come in. I don't think signing him will become a problem.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

This is one area where the Bears are king.

Well one thing I read is that to his credit Jeffrey isn't a "diva". I think this proves that. He's not out there complaining he should be getting first round money. He knows it was his own fault at least in part that he wasn't a first round pick and he wants to get into the game and start learning what he needs to learn.
