To think that "The Greatest Show on Turf" used to be all the rage in the league back in the 1990s/early 2000s. I guess the rest of the league caught up with Martz, because he ultimately failed in St. Louis and everywhere else he coached in his career.

Well, he fooled me. At the beginning, I actually was excited about it. Lovie should have known better though. He doesn;t watch his football from the couch.

The Bears only took Martz on as an offensive coordinator because he was about the only person who would take the job. Jeremy Bates originally wouldn't take the position, and every other offensive coach opted not to come work for the Bears citing Jerry Angelo as the reason and the fact that Lovie was on the hot seat. While the Bears finished 11-5 and NFC North Champions in 2010 along with getting to the NFC Championship Game, it was all done in spite of Martz, who had to be directed to take his offensive scheming in a different direction when it became apparent that his Chicago version of "The Greatest Show on Turf" simply wasn't going to work.

Fast forward to 2011 year, and look at what happened. He started the year off going back to the same sorry shit that he did at the beginning of 2010. When Bears got leveled by the Saints, Packers, and Lions in embarrassing fashion, Lovie and Tice had to get righteous with him yet again to once again go away from the seven step drops and just do simple four and five step drops instead. When this happened, the blocking instantly improved, almost to the point where it was considered one of the better blocking units in the league for several weeks. Finally, when Cutler went down, Martz reverted back to his old ways and neither Caleb Hanie or Josh McCown stood a chance with the poor blocking that came as a result of the seven step drops.

This all cost Martz his job. We all know that Lovie was going to fire his ass if Martz didn't "bow out gracefully". Getting Tice to be our offensive coordinator will be the best thing that has happened to the Bears offense in years because he knows what his offensive line can do in terms of blocking for Cutler and the backfield. I have never figured out where Troy Aikman has gotten off saying that the Bears were making a mistake by pushing Martz out the door and hiring Tice. Aikman must've gotten one too many concussions in his playing days or something.
