EX-Bears CB to Join Front Office

Ex-CB Joseph set to rejoin Bears' front office

By Brad Biggs, Tribune reporter 8:27 a.m. CDT, May 10, 2012

General manager Phil Emery pledged to expand the Chicago Bears' front office staff, and an NFL source told the Tribune that Dwayne Joseph, a former Bears cornerback and director of player development for the organization, is expected to return after eight seasons with the Miami Dolphins.

Joseph served as a pro scout and assistant director of pro personnel for the Dolphins and is expected to work on the pro side for the Bears.

Joseph signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent in 1994 and played in all 16 games the next season. He was on injured reserve in 1996 before being released in 1997. He then transitioned into a role as the director of player development and was well liked within the organization. Joseph was a team captain at Syracuse, where he received a degree in human development. The Miami native picked up a master’s degree in education from DePaul.

The Bears likely have will announcements to make soon. The entire scouting staff was coming out of contract after the draft, creating an anxious period for them and the club. Emery thoroughly praised the staff, part of which he worked with previously, before and during draft weekend. So most, if not all, are expected to return.

“I’ve been in two different other places through a couple of staff changes, staff change at one of them, working with different people,” Emery said. “The area scouts here are as fine as you are going to find in the NFL. They know how to go about their job.”

Pro scouts coming out of contract include Kevin Turks and James Kirkland. The college scouts are Chris Ballard, Marty Barrett, Rex Hogan, Ted Monago, Mark Sadowski and Jeff Shiver.

Roles for some of these scouts could be juggled and some could get promotions. Pro scout Dennard Wilson left the organization to become an assistant coach on Jeff Fisher’s staff in St. Louis.

That's who I immediately thought of when I saw the title. I've never heard of Dwayne Joseph.

I remember him. Pretty much just a backup without anything very impressive about his career here. Another Wannstedt era guy.

Well, Joseph must know what he's doing, else he wouldn't have been hired by Emery.
