Less than 30 minutes before the start of the club’s first rookie minicamp practice, the Chicago Bears announced they have agreed to terms with first-round draft pick Shea McClellinon a contract.
The defensive end from Boise State receives a four-year deal with an option for a fifth year. The team now has five of its six draft picks set with safety Brandon Hardin, the third-round selection from Oregon State, the only player without a deal in place yet.
McClellin will be on the fields at Halas Hall for the first time today with a total of 51 players participating in the session. The Bears have six draft picks, 11 undrafted free agents and 34 college players in for a tryout.
The deal for McClellin will be very similar to what the New York Giants paid cornerback Prince Amukamara last year. Amukamara, the 19th overall pick of the 2011 draft, received a four-year deal worth $8.1809 million.
