Less than 30 minutes before the start of the club’s first rookie minicamp practice, the Chicago Bears announced they have agreed to terms with first-round draft pick Shea McClellinon a contract.
The defensive end from Boise State receives a four-year deal with an option for a fifth year. The team now has five of its six draft picks set with safety Brandon Hardin, the third-round selection from Oregon State, the only player without a deal in place yet.
McClellin will be on the fields at Halas Hall for the first time today with a total of 51 players participating in the session. The Bears have six draft picks, 11 undrafted free agents and 34 college players in for a tryout.
The deal for McClellin will be very similar to what the New York Giants paid cornerback Prince Amukamara last year. Amukamara, the 19th overall pick of the 2011 draft, received a four-year deal worth $8.1809 million.

This is great news! I mean, it wasn't like it wasn't going to happen, but it's nice to tie up loose ends with our number one draft pick. Now, to sign Hardin!

Maybe he'll be a Hall of Famer as well. You never know about stuff like this!

Anyone heard how he has done the last few days? Maybe they can put put him up against Webb and really boost his confidence.

Well I would think it would be hard to tell a whole lot on the d line vs. air and bags... Plus only two days in. Marinelli said Shea's reactions were good and what they were expecting from film 'n previous. Hardin is the one that the coaches commented on today. So far all picks are doing as expected. Was hoping to hear some praise towards a few tryout guys but guess they will wait till tomorrow if they say anything at all.

It's good to know that McClellin is doing well in spring practice so far. Let's see how he progresses on into Training Camp.
