Tice Says Carimi "Right on Track".............

    Chicago Bears Report

Tice on Carimi: Right on track

Jonathan Daniel/Getty ImagesGabe Carimi is expected to return the field sometime before the middle of June.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears offensive tackle Gabe Carimi is expected to return the field sometime before the team wraps up its offseason workout program in the middle of June, according to offensive coordinator Mike Tice.

    "He's right on track,"
Tice said Friday following the first day of rookie minicamp. "We expect to see him at some point before the session is over. Sooner than later. So we're pretty excited about that."

Carimi, the No. 29 overall selection in the 2011 NFL draft, opened the regular season as the Bears' starting right tackle before suffering a partial dislocation in his right knee during a Week 2 loss in New Orleans. The offensive lineman eventually underwent an arthroscopic debridement procedure on his right knee in early November before eventually landing on injured reserve on November 19. Carimi then had an additional surgery in late December to repair connective tissue around his patella and medial collateral ligament.

Despite Carimi's injury plagued rookie campaign, coupled with the documented struggles of left tackle J'Marcus Webb, the Bears resisted the temptation to use a draft pick on a tackle or to sign a veteran one in free agency. The current options at tackle besides Carimi and Webb includes 2008 first round choice Chris Williams who was moved to guard the past two years under Tice, Lance Louis and Levi Horn.

"If we felt that tackle was a dire need for us, I'm sure we would of answered the bell on draft day," Tice said. "I'm sure with the change in scheme, the change in personality if you will, an offseason, and getting some guys healthy will make a big jump in the offensive line. I think it takes time for young guys to play good in all areas, and I think we have a couple of young guys who have played good football in half the scheme. They need to pick it up in the other half of the scheme. We have a number of guys like that. We also have some guys who got hurt we need to get back."

The Bears organized team activities (OTAs) are scheduled the begin in less than two weeks while the offseason program ends in mid-June (12-14) with a mandatory three-day veteran minicamp.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I'm not as concerned about Carimi as I am in cwill. That wrist injury bothers me. As windy pointed out at one point, the guy "punches" a few bajillion times per game. It concerns me.

Not to hijacked this thread, and god knows I don't care for another "Webb sucks" thread, I'm wondering what the oline will consist of this year. Here's my guess...

    Webb
    Cwill
    garza
    Louis
    Carimi

So basically, I think Louis wins the guard spot over spencer, and that is the only change in the starting lineup. With the scheme change (or playcalling change) I think the oline becomes a non issue in 12.

I don't see how Louis doesn't win a spot easily. He's probably the most talented and nastiest G on the roster.

They better make sure they don't rush Carimi. Let him take all time he needs to fully recover. The last thing we need is for him getting injured again because they're rushing his recovery.

Well, he didn't get a preseason last year and last year he waits until Dec to get surgery even though he was injured in the second game. They are losing a bunch of time he needs to be on the field. No one has explained why they waited so long to get the surgery done. He could have been starting to practice with the rest of the team.

Initially they thought he might be able to return in time for the playoffs but once we were out of it there was no sense not going ahead with the surgery. Probably a good thing for him and for us that if happened because if he hadn't had the surgery until February he may have missed camp this year completely.

Sometimes they do 1 at a time so it can heal . Sometimes they wait to see how 1 went then have to tweak it . And sometimes they can do everything at once. Just depends.

If they thought he was likely to get re-injured, team doctors probably woulda told them they needed to spend a pick on an OT. imo

    He should be good.
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?

    A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?

I agree. I'm actually not worried about his being ok. More upset that I think he will be a very good player for us and he is missing out on his second off-season of work. I think he can be even better faster if they would have considered the timelines a little better.

Gabe Carimi says he’ll be ready to go before Bears’ minicamp

    Bears offensive tackle Gabe Carimi

    Updated: May 13, 2012 2:47AM

Second-year offensive tackle Gabe Carimi said he expects to be ready before the Bears’ minicamp next month.

“I’m feeling really good. They’re saying another couple of weeks and I’ll be here for [offseason training activities] and minicamps,” Carimi said Saturday night from the Bears Care Gala. “I’m just champing at the bit to get back and actually be back with the O-line and not on the outside looking in.”

The team’s veteran minicamp will be June 12-14.

Carimi suffered a dislocated knee cap in Week 2 last season, and he had ups and downs before being put on injured reserve and undergoing surgery. The Bears were careful about his return, but coach Lovie Smith has been offering some encouraging comments over the last couple months.

“He’s right on schedule,” Smith said Friday. “Right on schedule, but we can’t tell you what that schedule is. But we’re right on it.” Smith, though, added he wasn’t talking about training camp. “We’re talking about some of our offseason work,” he said.

Carimi applauded the team’s training staff. “I’m going to be back very soon, so we’re all very excited to get me back on the field,” Carimi said.Carimi is expected to return to his role as the starting right tackle.

    Players know dangers

Bears Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs said he has been fortunate that he hasn’t had issues with concussions.

“I’ve been lucky, I guess — or whatever you want to say — that I haven’t been in a position like Dan Morgan or different guys who have had concussions that have forced them out of the league,” Briggs said.

“Especially, in 2012, you have to know this is part of the sport you’re entering. You want to love it and all that good stuff and all that it brings. But there are dangers to it.”

Briggs hosted a free football camp for more than 220 eighth- to 12th-graders at Hales Franciscan in Chicago.

LOL. Like we say in business - If you have have no idea where you are going, any road will get you there.

I kind of thought he would be ok for minicamp. I was more talking about some of the time he is missing now. But this may not be very productive time. Maybe it won't make a difference. My thought was since no offseason last year, it would have been good to have him in all the way this offseason. I know vets will be working out next week and I'm not sure how many other sessions they have to work on technique and gelling prior to minicamp, but I view those as time that would have been meaningful to a person that had no offseason last year and only had to games with the rest of the line before being injured.

Doesn't matter. Probably a small point in the scheme of things, but this small stuff - someone should be taking into consideration.
