Not a thing shorty. I don't think we've got much there other than some bodies for camp and maybe a guy who might manage to stick on the PS. If Emery thought he had any real good prospects for a roster spot out of those UDFA's I doubt he'd have signed the three vets he did although they don't impress me either. But.......vet competition is better than rookie competition so it can't hurt.

I thought there was some significant hope that Cameron would look good enough in the Bears one-gap system that he would 'force' the Bears to keep him on the roster. Signing the three three vets makes a great deal of sense as they are far more sure things, limited up-side perhaps but legit NFL. They are no-bonus guys, though, I thought, so any or all can be cut before the season without cap consequences. I presume this calculation (and the shortage of depth at DT) is what induced Cameron to sign with the Bears in the first place. Am I missing something ... again :)

Cameron looked good in the vids we saw but he also played against very low level competition in college so how he'll measure up against the big boys is another thing. He looks to me like a guy who was signed primarily on the basis of his quickness and athletic ability. Whether or not that converts into football skills at this level is something they'll need to find out.

If he wasn't he would've been benched last year and dumped this offseason.

I think Bears fans should look at who plays LT for every single team in the NFL and then you'll come back to reality and realize there are less than 5 LTs that are absolutely dominant at that position.
It's looking more and more like the Bears are positioning themselves to perhaps give Chris Williams one last shot at the LT position since they cut Levi Horn. I will be very interested in seeing how this plays out. In my opinion, Chris Williams can't be any worse than Webb has been at LT. After all, that is what he was drafted in the first round to play.

I myself would like to see what he can do there before we decide he is a G for good. He is a good G so we know we can put him there, but I'd like to see if we can take LT off our shopping list.

This is exactly what we need to be doing. If we spend this offseason, camp and preseason games trying him out at LT we'll know once and for all whether he's got what it takes to be an NFL LT. He showed some promise there early on but injuries and travels around the line to three different positions have robbed him of any chance he's ever had so far to develop there.

We know he can play OG and on the basis of his play last year before he was injured it looked to me like he could become a very good one. He could stand to get a little stronger anchoring against the pass and in the power game but he showed tremendous ability to block on the move and looks like he could be one of the best pulling OG's in the league. He's a very capable starter at OG who should only get better if we leave him there.

But.......we need help at LT and there's nowhere else to get it except from our own roster so we need to find out whether or not he can move his skills to LT and play as well. He's up for a contract extension so does he get offered OG money or OT money? Despite the way some feel about him, at this stage of his career there are other teams who would love to have him and those guys may be willing to give him OT money since $4-$5 mil per year is cheap to them for a young OT and we seem bent on paying Olineman about $2 mil per year.

This is almost like the Danieal Manning deal where we let a guy just hitting his stride at a key position on defense walk because we wouldn't pay him the going rate and someone else was willing to. I just got through reading guys posting about how that was a big mistake yet some may be more than willing to say that we should make it all over again when it comes to CWill. The guy is finally beginning to "get it" as far as what it takes to be a good NFL lineman so let's find out just what his ceiling is. He's already come a long way up from his floor.

I have a feeling that Chris Williams will win the starting job at LT this year and that Edwin Williams or Lance Louis will be asked to play LG. Now, I don't know the difference in the techniques between a LG and a RG, but it's been said and thus established on this message board that Lance Louis has a chance at being one of the league's top guards. If this is the case, then by all means get him in the lineup at LG. He's a great run blocker and he proved decent at pass protection as well last season.

That leads up to another point. What do you do with Chris Spencer? The guy is making about $3 million a year, yet, nobody seems to know what his role on this offensive line is going to be. He also played well last season despite the broken hand, and I'm willing to bet that if Lance Louis moves over to the LG position, Chris Spencer will take over at RG. Just my two cents worth.

In this offense the LG is probably gonna be asked to "pull" and block on the run more which CWill proved he was very good at last year. Louis appears to have the athleticism and foot speed to do that too so if CWill moves to LT you could well be right. Louis may move to LG and maybe Spencer and Rachal butt heads for RG which is where Rachal played in SF. There's also 3 or 4 others who'll also be looking for work including the rookie Brown and second year guy Henry and another vet in Wrotto so there's no lack of competition at OG.

I could see a 10 to 15 sacks allowed per game improvement right there with that lineup, German. We would have an above average line for a change.
