I'm with you. I don't think Pompei has anything to write about right now. lol

Well, it is the thin part of the 24/7 NFL Season.
Still, the article is worth discussing, if for nothing more than thoughts and anticipations of Bates' handling of Cutler and... the offense?
Personally, I see nothing wrong with letting the QBC call the plays in today's pass-happy offenses. If he's got a lock-step rapport with the quarterback, who better to ask the QB how things are going out on the field? Quarterbacks are more likely to talk straight to their QB coach (if they have one) than they are to their OC.
Unless you're Payton Manning. Then, you just talk to yourself.

Do you agree with me that Peyton Manning is schizo?

No, I'm suggesting he's his own offensive coordinator.
Quit trying to recruit people.

Actually, I think bringing Bates in was a stroke of genius on two counts. It brings back a successful working relationship between Bates, Marshall and Cutler, but at the same time brings some known expertise to calling offensive plays. Tice hasn't done this before and having Bates there is a great decision.

You're probably right houston but it's not like most of these guys don't crank out at least one useless article per week. The boss says write so they write stuff sometimes even they know either makes no sense or makes too much sense and wins them this weeks
Captain Obvious Award. Pompei gets a CO for this one.

Maybe mo but I don't know that I'd give that bargaining chip up just to get him to sign his tender. They probably wouldn't tag him twice anyway but I'd still hold onto that possibility. I guess we don't know the whole story here but it seems to me like Forte is playing real "hard ball" with this thing.
He claimed that he would sign the tag tender as long as negotiations toward a long term deal where still going on and despite the fact that the Bears made a good faith offer in that regard he still refuses to sign the tag. Whose playing fast and loose with their word now? With no other leverage maybe that's what he's hoping for as a verbal concession but frankly I wouldn't give it to him.

Well part of the hang up in hiring a passing game co-coordinator was what seemed be Tice's insistence on doing the play calling himself. So has that changed now or not? Bates went through the same thing out here with Shanny but finally won that battle and Cutler and Marshall both go to the pro-bowl. It would seem to me that Bates knows exactly how to get the max out of Cutler.
Someone needs to be up in the booth and Tice has already said he prefers to coach from the sidelines which as a former HC I can understand. It also makes sense for him to be there if he's still gonna take an active hand in coaching the line. So to me it just makes good common sense to put Bates in the booth to be the "eye in the sky" and call down plays. He can always override if he needs to and if you give Cutler the ability to audible too then there are all kinds of checks and balances going on.
I say let Bates and Cutler do their thing. Tice has a strong personality and I'm just hoping he doesn't try to micro manage the offense on game day. When you hire others to do a job then sometimes you just need to get the hell out of the way and let them do it.

I see the potential for a clash of egos within the offensive brass. Tice was a former head coach, has worked with this offensive line and crafted its powerful run blocking to fit what this team's mantra is going to largely be for the 2012 season, and he has been with the Bears for going on three years. Meanwhile, Jeremy Bates worked with both Cutler and Marshall in Denver as the quarterbacks coach and has the goods on them. Lovie may have a clash of egos on his hands if he doesn't watch out. If this happens, I ultimately think Tice wins out simply because this is going to be his offensive scheme that the Bears are going to run.
