Exactly. We talked earlier, perhaps in another thread, about how we were worried about Tice becoming a micromanager with this offense he is installing. The fear is a founded one because Martz treated his brand of mad science like a pet, always devising wilder and crazier offensive schemes that ultimately backfired on him. Well, it cost him his job. I think that between Tice and Bates, we're going to have a very modern, run-balanced offensive attack similar to what you'll see with the Houston Texans.

I'll still be concerned about Tice micro-managing if he doesn't at least let Bates have some pretty strong input into the play calling if not let him do it period.

Do you think that Tice is that arrogant? I mean, we just got rid of the most arrogant son of a bitch to ever grace the sideline of an NFL football field (Martz). Surely he can't be as bad as Martz. I would be shocked.
I seem to recall, glad that we're on this subject by the way, that Tice said that the offense is going to be designed very similarly to the one that was in place in Denver. That means that Jeremy Bates will be having heavy influence in the way the passing game is designed, particularly on the roll outs, the naked bootlegs, the way Cutler steps back from behind center that, instead of backpeddling as he did with Martz, he will take four and five step drops sideways with his head looking forward surveying the field. I doubt you'll ever see the Bears resort to using the old seven step drops that Mike Martz utilized very often again.

No I don't think Tice is at all arrogant in the sense that Martz was but I wonder about him taking on too much and not doing justice to any of it. If he's gonna continue to work with the lineman and setup the game plans I think he should probably let Bates call the game. JMHO.

That would be in direct conflict with what Tice wants, though. Tice is going to predicate this offense upon the running game, and frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if this team is in the top five in rushing next year. Tice will probably have at least 50% say over what is done on offense, which will be the running game, while Bates will deal with the passing game. In essence, the Bears will be running to set up the offense, which would stand to reason that Tice will be doing the majority of the play calls. I personally have no problem with that idea since running the ball has been in the Bears' blood for the entire history of the franchise. It's also nice, too, to know that we now have a good passing coordinator in Bates and the toys to make whoopie with the pass.
