Cornerbacks in 2012
Since we signed Kelvin Hayden and Jonathan Wilhite I was wondering what D.J. Moore's role will be in 2012. Does anyone know who's going to start at cornerback or is it too early to tell?
I've said it before, I'd like Moore to start along with Tillman. Although he is a little short, he is very fast and has good hands. He has impressed me so far.
Agree?

DJ starts at Nickel Back when the Bears use that defense lb and he's pretty damn good at it. He's only 5'8"-5'9" 180lbs and on the outside he'd struggle with the same things Tim Jennings does playing bigger taller WR's. Playing on the inside his quickness and his ball skills really help him but he's on the small side as far as playing CB.
Even though Jennings, who is about the same size, has done OK at LCB it seems the Bears are looking for a bigger guy to replace him which is why they signed Kelvin Hayden who is 6' 195lbs to Jennings 5'8" 185lbs. Ideally the minimum size for an NFL CB these days is 5'11"-6' and 190lbs and guys less than that usually end up with NB roles like DJ has.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

we'll see a lot of rotation going on next year

This defense has the potential to be a real monster along with the offense if the pass rush is up to the task of stuffing quarterbacks dead in their tracks. That will help our secondary out tremendously as it will keep them from be taxed physically so much.

Huge difference in athleticism between Jennings and Moore is why Tim succeeds (somewhat) on the outside while Moore won't. Moore is a great short area quickness guy with good instincts and ball skills. Problem is, he simply lacks the long speed to not be a liability on the outside. Short and fast works, Tall and marginal can pass -- but short and slow simply won't fly on the outside in a league where WRs are getting bigger and faster by the day. DJ is right where he belongs at NB, and it's a highly valued situational position in our system, so there's nothing wrong with him nailing down a niche role.

True I didn't forget to mention the speed differential which is substantial. DJ would get his doors blown off by the long strider's and the speed guys. Jennings at least has the wheels to run with them.

Because of his size (like Soul mentioned previously) and his experience in a Cover-2, I'd like to see Hayden opposite Tillman. Just hope he can stay healthy.

Keep DJ Moore at NB. He's a stud right there. He's what Ricky manning used to be with the Panthers and Bears when he was in his prime. Moore may be tough for the Bears to resign.
