But he still stands pat w/the best of them as a whole, TD's are low compared to the elite TD guys, but his yards tend to be much better

Btw mjd is a ungodly underated beast btw. Everyone talks CJ/AP/Foster, but MJD is multi deminsional and his TD's are right up there with them. I'm not sure how clearly those guys are over him; he might be the 4th in that pack. The rest are all running in the beta group.
Well that's what I've been saying and projecting that the Bears have offered something in that neighborhood. Maybe they haven't been willing to offer the guarantee over two years as I suggested. That would be about equal to the costs of two years of tagging him but if they did that and made the whole deal worth $30 mil give or take it would be just as good a deal as McCoy got or better.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Well right now what they've done is all speculation; nothing has come out since last year when it was 13-15 mil. The Scenerio plays out one of two ways this offseason:
    1) Didn't up the offer and told him we're gonna just tag you for 1 to 2 years if you don't sign. It's possible; and might be the reason he hasn't signed yet.
    2) They did offer him a 17-20 mil contract and are either haggling over small details, or Forte has lost his F'n mind and really sees himself as above guys like MJD, Rice, McCoy, etc etc...which he's not.

I'm still thinking that it's the first. I'm not sure this team(right or wrong) is sold that Forte is the rb for the future of this franchise. But if the 2nd is true, I think you'll see the deal signed before the season starts.

Ric I think they came up on those guarantees and put them in that ball park but I'm betting that they deal they offered is short of $20 mil and only for 4 year and Forte wants a 5 year deal with $20 + guaranteed and $43-$45 mil total. He's 2nd behind Foster in average yards yds from scrimmage and despite his lack of scoring you know they're pushing that because Foster gets $30 mil guaranteed over three years and I'm sure the Bears aren't even close to that.

Forte has big play potential, although it' crazy to think how he flalls TD's and short yard/goal line considering how good he is in the open field.

Again I can see either scenerio happening. I hope you're right, I hope they got in the 17-20 mil range. I do think he'll sign that deal. He can push his yardage and averages and everything else, but at the end of the day, his TD's and short yardage problems are a legit argument against to not give him the elite deals that AP/CJ/Foster have gotten. If that means 20 mil, or less who knows. That's for them to decide and for us to beat the horse over :p

Well one of the raps on him even coming out of college is that he doesn't have as much power as his size would indicate. I think he did better last year in he regard but he still runs to high to be effective near the line. That and he's long strider who needs space to open up. He doesn't have the small area quickness that even Bell shows.

Erick Dickerson was the same way though and didn't have near these issues. Again I think you'll see a lot of his #'s go up while watching his carries/rec's go down.

Dickerson wasn't a good short yardage guy either plus he had a tendency to leave the ball on the ground. Singletary tore him up in that 1986 playoff game where we shut out the Rams.

I know that I've said this before and I have been told that I'm wrong, but I really think that the reason Forte doesn't do well in short yardage situations is because the interior of the offensive line doesn't open up big enough holes for him to run right on through there. You are right - he's 6'2" and 215 lbs (give or take a few) and runs upright like Eric Dickerson did - but Dickerson could run through those holes if they were there for him. Even in that NFC Championship Game when Singletary tackled him at the line of scrimmage, he had a hole that he hit. It just so happened that Singletary was there to clog it up.
