Good post brother. This has been my point about Webb all along. It's not his lack of horsepower that causes his problems it's his lack of brainpower.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Sounds kinda like Grossman. Lack of brain created bad situations...but when the brain clicked man he could look good. Guess the question will be can Webb get to the point where he has more good then bad; something Gross just couldn't overcome.

Yea I have a problem with all the dumb Bears fans that keep piling on Webb when he's just a young player learning to play the most difficult position on the line.
Not everyone is going to agree with you, and your demonstrated superior knowledge of all things football. I am one of those. Regardless of my opinions of Webb, or anyone for that matter, posting to eat a bag of dicks and to stick it is infantile and does not belong in mature football discussions. You can keep swinging off of Tice and Webb's nuts if you feel the need.

I haven't seen too many people say that Webb definitely won't make it and I haven't seen ANYONE say that they hope he doesn't. What I have seen is people (myself included) say that his game sucks. Right now, I think his game sucks. That doesn't mean that I don't think he has any hope of getting better - nor does it mean that I hope he doesn't.

I have no idea why that offends anyone. Yes, the LT position is difficult. Yes dominant LTs are SUPER hard to come by. That doesn't change the fact that Webb isn't playing well. The fact that he is not currently playing well and that with all the changes he might in fact be a good LT are not mutually exclusive. Don't know why anyone is getting their panties in a wad.

As mentioned, Grossman looked fantastic at times. In one of his games, (I can't remember which one) I honestly thought that we had the second coming of Joe Montana. Well that was pretty short lived. Just because Webb has had good games does not mean he will ultimately succeed. It also doesn't mean he won't.

But right now he isn't very good. And until he is, I'm going to keep poking him (and not the way you guys are thinking).

I agree with your post. One good thing is that we will know this season if he's going to make it or not as a starter in the NFL. In fact, I'm thinking it may be 3 or 4 solid games into the season before I would breathe easy - even if he does nail down the starting job over C. Wiliams. But I'm sure hoping he pans out because this offense has the look of one that can be really really special with a decent oline. I really don't worry about the other 4 oline positions. I think we'll be OK with the rest of the line. It's the LT position that worries me.
    Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

Well, I hope he becomes solid. If he does, the real test will be when he goes up against a stud DE. If he does well the first four or five games, it will be a valid test after the season midpoint (after he has gotten his legs under him). I don't expect him to dominate the best DEs (although I wouldn't complain either), but I want to see him hold his own most of the time and be able to keep them off Cutler with some help. Anyone other than the very best DEs, he needs to be able to handle on his own. And he has to get his head out of his ass and in the game for the full 4 quarters.

I couldn't give a happy damn about Webb. I hope that he really does improve and become a solid player. Barring that, I hope that the scheme and his team-mates can mask his obvious inabilities. I only got a little miffed by being told, indirectly, to eat a bag of dicks. That is gonna get a reaction from me, every time. And yes, I realize that I should not stoop to the level of name calling, etc., therefore, bigbad, I apologize, kinda. Call me skippy again and you will get more of the same.

Every player in the NFL went without an offseason last year, including all rookies. Some played well. Cam Newton masterfully played arguably the most difficult position in the NFL without the benefit of an offseason. Most players work their ass off in the offseason and improve to some degree. Why would we believe that Webb will improve so much more noticeably than everyone else to the point where he is starting LT material? Because of Tice and his pixie dust? Because we can hide him in scheme? Wasn't Tice his coach last year? And wouldn't masking the player just be hiding deficiencies, not showing improvement? I am not going to say he cannot develop into a decent LT. He has a lot of improvement to make, and I will wait to be shown before hitching my wagon to his career.
