Cutler: Hester having 'best camp' of all receivers

This is really good news. Marshall will make everyone around him that much better IMHO.

By Fred Mitchell, Tribune reporter 2:07 p.m. CDT, May 23, 2012

Quarterback Jay Cutler was all smiles after the Chicago Bears’ organized team activity session Wednesday at Halas Hall.

“We’re knocking off the rust a little bit. We got better from yesterday,” Cutler said.

With the addition of big receivers Brandon Marshall and rookie Alshon Jeffery, Cutler loves his options. But he has not forgotten veteran receiver Devin Hester.

“It changes things, where you can throw the ball, when you can throw the ball,” he said. “Those guys are getting better and better each day. Devin Hester is having the best camp of all the receivers. So we have a lot of weapons.

Under new offensive coordinator Mike Tice, the Bears figure to have a different look this season.

“We’re doing a little bit different stuff, carrying over some stuff from last year,” Cutler said without being specific. “It’s kind of a mix between last year. Trying to put our heads together and find the best answer.”

Camp is camp. Sundays are Sundays. Hester is going to have to do something on Sundays to change my mind about him and his ability to be a good reciever. To get to great, he has to show me A LOT!

Shit, I thought i typed the rest of that smartass message. that's weird. Anyway, I'm surprised a professional quarterback would say something to the tune of Hester being a WR...

I'm glad that our 3rd/4th option (in the slot) is looking good out there.

Don't get me wrong, I think this will be Hesters best year as a WR. He's going to be the 4th player teams have to worry about on O, behind Marshal and Forte and Jefferies/Bennett(who ever is out there as the 2nd wr). It's going to take a lot of pressure off him.

What I love about this is the fact Hester doesn't have to be our #1 now. Heck, he doesn't even have to be our #2 or even #3 guy. With Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery & reliable Earl Bennett - and the speed-guy TE receiver (not to mention Forte) and Hester can shine as just one more weapon in Cutler's toolbox. When we match up against teams like the Packers & Detroit's secondary, we're going to be their worst nightmare come true.

This isn't your typical anemic Bears offense. We are loaded.

I like the part JC says " Where you can throw the ball and when you can throw the ball." Its practice and you don't get touched. Is the OL really giving you that much time against the defense?

I like the Cutler comments earlier today when he mentions how they're changing to more shorter drops (5-steps rather than 7) and more of a mid-range attack. Love it. I also like how we have replaced speed-guys who couldn't run routes (and who had stone hands) with guys who can actually catch the ball. Big, physical guys who ALSO have a lot of speed. This is going to be a very different offense. A blind man can see that.

RIP "Mad Mike" Martz and your old outdated playbook.
