It's a little on the low end, but the nagain there are 1500+ players, 660 starters in the NFL, so anything in the top 100 is pretty impressive.

Briggs should be about #51 Urlacher higher than that. Name two other guys anymore productive in any defense than they are. I hate these top #100 deals it so frickin' subjective.

Ya but these are soley done by the players. So I take this one a little more serious then others. Still very subjective, but player for player voting I always like. I just wish the coaches go to vote also.

If these were fan votes, I wouldn't even bother posting them. But these are the rankings as voted by the players, as ric said, so they carry more weight. Given how Briggs moved up 20 (or so) spots, and how 'Lach didn't quite seem to have as good a year this past season, but only moved down 2 spots, I can accept this. Moving a couple of spots may very well be due to someone else stepping it up, rather than a player getting worse. I'm with Ric on the whole "coaches should get a vote as well thing." Although, that would make the list not a list "of the players, by the players".... Doesn't sound like it would sell as well.

Urlacher is my favorite Bears player, so in my heart, he's #1. He is every bit as good as Ray Lewis in my opinion, and anyone who says otherwise is going based on the fact that he's played longer and has had more time to rack up more Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors. Urlacher plays a true MLB position in a Cover 2 defense, not that blitzing bullshit that they do in places like Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Green Bay, where the front seven all blitz the shit out of the quarterback and get ungodly amounts of sacks. If that were the case and Urlacher played in a more man-oriented defense like the Giants run, who knows how many sacks he would have? As it is, he consistently gets between 130-160 tackles every year even at his advanced age. He seems to play smarter than he did even as a young player now. I can see him lasting another three seasons easily and continue making the Pro Bowl every the year.
