Forte has a contract to sign that will pay him more than enough money. He still has a longterm contract with about 16-18 million guaranteed or he has a FT that will bring him 7.74 million next year. It's up to him.

Sure, we are better with Forte on our Roster next year than not, but I'm not sure if we are better in the next 2-5 years with a lot of players that we have to resign. Cutty tops this and you want to compare the importance of Cutty and the QB to Forte and the RB position? You make RBs and Bell has shown me enough that we can say he would be a good back for us as #1 behind Bush. Nothing to worry about. Go and add some UDFA RBs and give them a chance. You make them stars, when they want money, you look for some cheaper options. Stacked D and Cutty with WRs and a better OLine will win us the SB, not the RB. All we can say against Bell was his fumbles. He could be a 1000+ yard RB for us when he is the #1 for 16 games. 1000+ yard seasons for a RB are nothing special anymore.

QB, OLine, Defense, WRs I put every posistion over the RB. I don't see a reason why we should pay for this when we have a good QB, a Top5 WR with a good WR depth, a good D and hopefully an improved OLine.

We need our Cap Space and money for Cutty, Urlacher (or his replacement), Melton and some others. If the OLine fails, I think we will draft this next year. I think that we will go OLine or (M)LB next year in the 1st and our 2nd Pick will be the other position. RBs are not hard to find and not worth the big money when you have a team like we do

German, I just looked at all the recent news reports about this issue, and nothign says the Bears offered 16-18 mil in guarantees. That is speculation from Soul who's assuming they want to keep him.

As for the players we have to resign, that's all fine and good, but don't lie to the man and say you're our first priority to get signed, then give him a bs offer and say we'll look at it next year(which is what they did).

QB/OL/DL/WR..errr not wr. QB/OL/DL yes. WR isn't near as important as RB right now, b/c RB is how you stop QB/WR from being on the field, no longer is the D(the D's have been handcuffed by idiodic rules).

Melton is another highly over rated player on this team. He's good, but not worth re signing. Melton's are a dime a dozen in the league. The guy had Peppers getting double/triple teamed and still couldn't consistantly pressure a qb. THere is NO ONE on this DL outside of Peppers who's job should be safe.

I understand what you are saying. I'm only saying that we are a better team with Forte AND Bush, with Bell as a competent backup, nothing more. I don't disagree with any of your points. Forte doesn't have to sign the FT until late in the season. He could sit out and not report (as other recent NFL players have) and just sign late to get credit for the season and then leave to another team who WILL give him a better deal. Of course the Bears could franchise him a 2nd year - at a significantly higher pay rate. But I don't see that happening if Forte sits most of the season. And, of course Forte could "pull a Peyton Hillis" and pocket the $7 mil and then not play due to mysterious ailments. And then move on like Hillis did this year.

I am not advocating any of this. Just pointing out that this isn't a simple "done deal" yet. It is in everyone's best interest to see this contract dispute ended in a fair way to both parties. I'm hoping they can compromise (both sides) and get a happy Forte back on the field. We need all 3 of our weapons at RB. It's our best option for a Super Bowl run.

WR > RB
you can have a great QB but when he throws to Roy Williams, it doesn't matter who the QB is.

Melton is not overrated. He is a good DT but there are many in the league that are better than him. He is a starter and was our best DT last year. Better than Okoye who was signed by the Buccs and had interest going on for him. We can not replace Melton that easy as we can replace Forte.

You are right, we are better with Forte than without. Forte knows he needs to play and play good to get the contract he wants. He will not get a 18+ guaranteed contract as FA next year when he won't play his year. He would end like Hillis did. Sign for cheap and not be the #1 of the team.

German, we can disagree on Melton, if you cannot get pressure when you have Peppers on your line, your not worth resigning.


We won't know what Forte's worth until he hits the Market, but I think it's telling that unlike Briggs, the Bears didn't want him to hit FA.

Love his attitude. A player who knows his role on the team AND is willing to work hard. Cant ask much more then that from a player.

My beef w/Melton is his run D. That needs to improve greatly. Melton also goes on Rod somewhat as if there's one guy that can and must be developed it's Melton. Otherwise what development of DL have we seen.

I think that the Bears want Forte on the Roster this coming season with the FT. After that year, he will not be franchised again.

Chicago could end up with Bush Bush Bell ;) or draft a RB

The 2013 RB class could be one of the best ever if some JRs come out. He's replaceable.

I like him, I'm glad he's on the team, and I think he's going to be that consistnat short yardage backup the team has wanted when they got Taylor and MBIII; but my expectations end there. Think about it, teams...including Oakland could have gotten a starting rb for A TOTAL of 14 mil over 4 years, and they passed for other options. It's not like Bush was looking for a huge payday, yet he took a backup role; it speaks volumes about his real value in the NFL and what teams think about him.

He's not the caliber of a RB like Forte but he proved last year that he could carry the Raiders running game pretty well. The reason Oakland didn't re-sign him had nothing to do with his productivity. Oakland needed to cut players to reach that cap limit. They couldn't afford to re-sign him.

He's big strong back who can punch into the endzone on goaline plays and he's also a good pass reciever. He's not a top ten back like Carimi but he's good enough to win with. Quite a few teams have won SB without a top ten back including NY last year.
