Bush looking forward to playoff run with Bears

Bush looking forward to playoff run with Bears

With Matt Forte sitting out the Chicago Bears OTA sessions so far because of a contract stalemate, running back Michael Bush is getting more reps. But he's more than willing to share.

Bush, a sixth-year running back out of Louisville, was acquired by the Bears on March 22 when he signed a four-year, $14 million contract. The 6-foot-1, 245-pound Bush gained 2,642 yards (4.2 yards per carry) and scored 21 touchdowns in four years with the Raiders. He was unable to play as a rookie in 2007 because of a broken leg suffered the previous year at Louisville.

When the Bears signed Bush, Forte tweeted: “There’s only so many times a man that has done everything he’s been asked to do can be disrespected! Guess the GOOD GUYS do finish last.”

Bush, who backed up Darren McFadden with the Raiders, says he is simply trying to fulfill an important backup role with the Bears.

“When (Forte) gets here, I mean, to me my role doesn’t change, as it was in Oakland,” Bush said after Wednesday’s session in Lake Forest. “(Forte) is in, he gets tired, he goes out. I come back in or whatever. I’m ready. I just know that when it is my turn, I will be ready.”

Bush, who started nine games last season when McFadden was injured, sounds like the ultimate team player.

“I mean, it’s football. It’s just people making plays,” he said. “A lot of guys out here, they can make a lot of plays and it’s not just one guy who is going to be the winner. Seems like the line is great, so we’re just ready to roll.”

Bush says he is in the phase of his career where winning championships is the most important result.

“The past here has been great football-wise," he said. "Coming up as a kid watching the Bears, I used to hear (Brian) Urlacher’s name and you always want to play with those guys -- against them and with them. So now that I am here, hopefully I can get to the playoffs for the first time and win some games.”

well coming out of, literally, a blackhole to a team that could win a championship has to be nice. I have no doubt this is the guy they thought they were getting in Taylor and MBIII.

This was a good pickup and I think it's gonna show up on the scoreboard. One of the most frustrating things I watched over the last few years was the offense getting the ball down the field in good order only to stymied inside the ten and having to settle for a chip shot FG.

With Bush on the ground and the kind of size we have at WR and TE I'm really hoping that won't be a problem any longer.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

It's always a problem for every team; but it will be severely reduced. It would have been w/out Bush b/c of Marshal and Jeferries; but he's just another deminsion that will lower it further.

Poor Gould; he'll be the fogotten Bear only chipping in extra points ;p

Even if Forte doesn't play next year, we have a quality backup who can more than take his place. I feel like we're in a good position to succeed either way you look at it.

MORE then take his place? You seriously think Bush can do MORE then Forte can? *facepalm*

he's a decent backup until Forte gets back, that's it. He's not equal to Forte, and he's not MORE then Forte by a long shot.

Did I say he was better? No, clearly not. I did say he can more than take his place. I meant that he can do all the things the coaches will ask him to do and then some. He could start for a few NFL teams right now, but we're fortunate to have him as our backup.

Dags, it's cool; but he had his chance to start for a few NFL teams, and none took him. The last team he was on has a RB that has never stayed healthy for a season, and has been a huge bust; and the let Bush walk. I think you're HIGHLY over rating Bush.

I like him, I'm glad he's on the team, and I think he's going to be that consistnat short yardage backup the team has wanted when they got Taylor and MBIII; but my expectations end there. Think about it, teams...including Oakland could have gotten a starting rb for A TOTAL of 14 mil over 4 years, and they passed for other options. It's not like Bush was looking for a huge payday, yet he took a backup role; it speaks volumes about his real value in the NFL and what teams think about him.

I don't think it's that, Ric. I think that with the restructuring of the entire ownership and front office of the Oakland Raiders right now, there's just so much turmoil with the turnover in players, having to cut salary expenditures due to Al Davis' frivolous spending with money that he didn't have to spend in the first place, that they opted not to re-sign him. He did rush for over 900 yards despite not having started the entire season. And I have no doubt that should Forte start the season by sitting out games due to the contract dispute, he will be more than adequate to handle the load the Bears will put on him.
