A look at Bear OTA by CBS Sports
It looks like Marshall, Jeffery and Hester aren't the only WRs to look good at OTA, a guy I have heard nothing about before now UDFA Chris Summers is also looking good during OTAs.
I have no idea what the coaches think of undrafted rookie wide receiver Chris Summers (we don’t have access to coaches during OTAs), but he stood out to me. The 6-5, 213 pound wide receiver from Liberty showed both size and quickness and made some good catches too. For a guy from Liberty, he seemed to fit in just fine on an NFL field.
Could we be in for a fight for roster spots at WR this year.

talking about WRs... how is Sanzenbacher doing?

He might just be getting lost in the mix.

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2012/05/...om-bears-otas/ Could you imagine: Chris Summers (6'5"), Brandon Marshall (6'4"), and Alshon Jeffery (6'3") on the team together compared to the midgets we've had recently? Not that Summers would necessarily make an impact this year, but good grief that would be a tall group.

It looks like Jay sees something in him worth coaching up based on that article and considering he had more catches in his rookie year than the guy who is currently slated to be our #2 in Devin Hester, I will not be counting him out. I like him a lot, and I have him penciled in for a roster spot. If he can shake the drops of his rookie campaign, which is entirely possible, I think he is a really solid contributor. The thing against him is that as a 5-ish WR on the roster, he will be battling a guy in Weems who will make the team based upon exciting return ability alone, whereas Dane has none. He'll have to ace a ST role and catch damn near everything thrown his way, but I think he has the guts and drive to do it.
edit: Against all rookie WRs; Dane was tied for 9th in receptions, 11th in yards, 7th in TDs and 10th in receptions for first down. I look for him to build on that and spoil people's plans to write him off.

I really hope Sanz makes this team. If he is put on the PS someone will snatch him up. I could imagine Summers (6'5) on the PS with TE Villnueuva (sp) at 6-10.

Sounds like Summers has good speed and quickness too. Emery seems to value big/tall players with solid football skills, while Jerry Angelo had a thing for short players who had speed, but not necessarily great football skills.

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

If Summers is as good as what we're hearing from OTA's, then he'd be gone in a heartbeat from our PS. He's 6'5" tall, is quick, has great speed for a big man -- and has great hands. Good luck keeping him a Chicago Bear if you put him out on PS.

Is the word "great" on sale today or something? jk, man, but seriously, this is a bit overboard for an undrafted guy we haven't seen in person against good competition.

You're right. I don't want to "crown" the guy yet. But one report from OTA's said he was giving our #2 draftee, Jeffrey, good competition. Summers is from a no-name college so I don't think it's too unusual that he didn't get too much notice for the draft. The Hall of Fame has plenty of undrafted players represented. And as for guys from no-name schools working out in the NFL, Jerry Rice and Walter Payton were not exactly from football factory schools ...and they did pretty well :-)
Here's the deal. You don't find 6'5" speed guys with solid hands under every rock. I'd hate to lose a guy like this on the PS.
