How does it look to have two giant receivers out there? I’m super excited about this season.

    From Josh on Twitter

Seeing two skyscrapers like Brandon Marshall (6-4) and Alshon Jeffery (6-3) on the field together looks like nothing I’ve ever seen in my 20 years covering the Bears. I feel compelled to also point out that the two receivers are not just tall; they both have good hands and seemingly catch everything thrown in their direction. There’s a lot more margin for error for a quarterback who’s throwing to a big receiver. During Tuesday’s OTA practice, there was no one open on one play and quarterback Jay Cutler threw the ball up to Marshall, who snagged it over two defenders. It was certainly a thing of beauty.

How is Patrick Mannelly doing after his season-ending injury and any guesses on who the Bears emergency long-snapper would be?

    From Curtis T. on Twitter

Veteran long-snapper Patrick Mannelly is making steady progress in his recovery from the torn ACL he sustained last year and plans on returning for a Bears-record 15th season in 2012. In terms of an emergency replacement, fullback Tyler Clutts filled that role last year after Mannelly went down, so I imagine that he would be called upon again if needed given that he performed well.

Who do you think will be the starting safety tandem at the end of the season (assuming all are healthy)?

    From Tim M. on Twitter

I’d probably have to say Major Wright and Chris Conte, but the Bears do have depth with dependable veteran Craig Steltz and promising rookie third-round pick Brandon Hardin. Regardless of who wins the starting jobs, the key for the secondary this season to me is avoiding the injuries that have regularly depleted the safety position most of the past several years.

Id be more impressed when our OL actually gives Cutler time to even make a throw. Hard to hit your receivers when youre on your back.

There's no way the pass blocking won't improve somewhat. Just another years experience and (knock on wood) no injuries so that guys are playing in their usual positions will take care of some of it.

Sometimes I think Bears fans forget just what a cluster fuck that was last year losing two 1st round draft picks to injury and having so many guys playing the position they were playing for the first time in their NFL careers.

Now enter into the picture an offense with bigger and better receivers, more rollout and playaction passing, and a focus on quicker releases that Bates brings to the offense and the line will not have the pressure on them they did last year. We need to play to the strengths of the people we have and Martz didn't do that.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
