Devin Hester on Brandon Marshall: Whatever he does, I try to do Posted by Michael David Smith on May 31, 2012, 5:40 PM EDT

In the Bears’ wide receivers’ room, Brandon Marshall is the wise veteran showing the other guys the right way to do things.
That’s the word from
Devin Hester, who says that Marshall’s presence will be a boon to all of the Bears’ receivers, himself included. Hester said the rest of the guys take notes from Marshall and want to reach his level as a wide receiver.
“
He brings a little more excitement to the receiver corps,” Hester said of Marshall. “A veteran guy who plays his tail off and became a true No. 1 wide receiver. With the mentality he has, it helps us see what it takes to be true No. 1 receiver. I’m just trying to be his little shadow. Whatever he’s doing, I’m trying to do because I want to get to his level.”
For much of his career, the idea of other players following Marshall’s lead would have sounded more alarming than encouraging.
But in Chicago everyone seems to agree that Marshall is a positive influence. And, for Hester, a good teacher.

Hester has a humble attitude that you don't see very often anymore in professional sports. The more I hear about Devin the more I respect him as a person. It was really cool to read the article the other day about him trying to help Knox during his rehab for the back injury. I'll bet Hester is really looked up to in the locker room. A quiet guy who leads by example.

Well Hester is a long way away from his hero Deon Sanders as far as his personality is concerned that's for sure. It would be nice if he finally gets a chance to show what he can do in an offense that's built around what he does well rather than what he doesn't.
It's good to hear about the positive impact Marshall is having on the team as well. No doubt that WR core needs a leader, especially Jeffery, and it looks like Marshall is becoming that guy. Now that he undertands his conditions and what he needs to do to control it he seems to have turned a major corner as far as his attitude and behavior is concerned. Added to that is the fact that being reunited with Cutler and on a team with SB aspirations and he's a happy camper maybe for the first time in his entire career.
If he could do what he's done in the past when he was unhappy I can't wait to see what he's capable of when he is.

I love hearing all these positives about Marshall. The guy has been maligned a great deal as a pro.

Ya that was the biggest concern about bringing in a top end diva WR, how the younger guys would react and how that guy would rub off on them. Seems Marshal is being a positive impact on them which is huge.

Well it's not like it was completely undeserved, LOL.

Granted he's got some off field things always happening, but he fits well into any locker room. He's not like that lunatic over in the DET landfill, Titus Young, sucker punching vets.

eh he wasn't exactly a great guy when he was making a seen in Den's practices either.
But the guy we got seems to have grown up.
