Honestly, I'm not apprehensive about the backup QB position at all. It's been this way even since the Favre days. If Favre went down for any significant amount of time I pretty much knew it was game over no matter who was sitting behind him. Now it's the same way with Rodgers.

And honestly, no one but Rodgers would have taken us to the playoffs last season with no run game and that defense. There's no QB on the market or backup we could have traded for that would have done it.
I think that's been the way with Bears fans an MLB. It seems like Urlacher has always been there even though he hasn't but the results were the same for the team as if we had lost a starting QB. We've got that vulnerability at MLB instead of QB. If Urlacher is out there's no one capable of filling his shoes.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Exactly. Urlacher has almost always been there in the same way that Favre and Rodgers have almost always been there. It takes an act of god to get them off of the field. When you have players like that you can afford to take risks with the talent behind them in favor of putting more talent around them.

And I would still take a 70 year old Urlacher with two broken legs over what we have at MLB currently. We have depth, but it's most crappy depth.

I think that given the results of Cutlers injury last year, Emery was given a priority to fix the "Cutler is down for the year" problem. With that being the case, he couldn't afford to get a guy that "might" fix the problem. I think he succeeded brilliantly.
