Then he calls that stupid backdoor pass to Davis that got intercepted and returned for a TD in the Oakland game. I swear there were times I believed he was intentionally trying to make Hanie look bad and lose games.
I never understood why martz never utilized a te in the air corryel system. Guys like Al saunders revolutionized the te position with how he used Gonzales in KC and Cooley in washington and he used the martz system.

Really. Corryel used Winslow all over the place. Martz is DB.

I'm not worried about the numbers Davis will put up. I hope he is a nice relief valve for Jay. If the offense catches fire at the right time-at the end of the season it will mean possibly: Jeffery is hitting his stride, Hester is flourishing in the Slot, and Marshall is having another solid year. So Davis numbers could go down from a strong start and it would not be a bad thing.
I can see Davis having the greatest effect just outside the redzone stretching out mis-matches. And of course in the back of the EZ.

When you watch Davis catching the football you realize he's a freak as far as his "catching radius" that he presents to Cutler. Calvin Johnson has a catching radius of 12.5-feet (about like a 2 car garage door in area and over 12' high with vertical jump & arms outstretched). I've gotta believe Davis is somewhat equivalent - and he's athletic with really good hands. Now that we can use TE's again, Cutler is going to have an incredible weapon in Davis.
If you're a team trying to defend this, who do you put on Davis? Good luck with THAT matchup.

Yes I saw the sports science on CJ as well. The advantage Davis has is his ability to break tackles, something Olsen had troubles with. Breaking just one near or inside the RZ is a really nice weapon.

I think in many ways Davis has already shown the he'll be a better TE for the Bears than Olsen was. Davis' blocking is far superior, he's extremely tough to bring down as he evidenced by shrugging of three tacklers and scoring that one TD last year. I forget what game that was. KC maybe? He's 2" taller, nearly 20lbs heavier and his reach is much better than Olsen's. He's another huge redzone threat.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Eh one thing I will not give him is a better target then Olsen, Olsen tended to be his goto guy, and therefore guarded much different. I'm not overly impressed w/eithers blocking to be honest though.

I think this myth of improved blocking was because they went from horrendous blocking to below average blocking which created the optical illusion of good blocking lol
And I respect martz and what he does if and when he has the right players to work with. But that's where it ends and shows his downfall. He doesn't make what he has work. It's either his way or shit and that was never going to work with this roster. One thing I give him credit for is helping cutler cut down on turnovers

I'd agree with his blocking Mo. But his ST blocking esp that block that freed Hester vs. Seattle now that was pretty darn nice.

He wasn't much of a blocker early in his career. He's gotten better. I noticed that Tice works him & the other TE's with the oline at training camp, and I think Tice has improved his blocking quite a bit over time. Davis is a veteran TE now. He seems like a guy who gives 100% effort trying to block.
Olsen is a great receiving TE, but as some have pointed out here, he's a wimpy half-hearted blocker & he seems to be pretty wimpy running after a catch. But I still like Olsen and wish him the best this season (as long as he's not playing us).
Davis is the better all-around TE. My only concern with Davis is his health. He has the bad back.
