"Bears could have a steal in Troy left tackle James Brown"

This is an older article on LT James Brown that I found tonight, but it's worth posting. This is a perfect raw talent for Tice to work with. Emery may have found us a "diamond in the rough" for the future.

Bears could have a steal in Troy left tackle James Brown

BY MARK POTASH AND SEAN JENSEN

The scouting report on Brown in Pro Football Weekly’s draft guide highlights his footwork, arm length and his “fiery on-field temperament.” His negatives were mostly related to his technique. That isn’t a huge concern because Bears offensive coordinator Mike Tice is known as an excellent teacher.

PFW has very questionable analysis. In fact, those tools ripped the Bears awhile back saying that McClellin was a reach because they had him rated as a 3rd rd pick. They have a lot of funny analysis.

Yikes, I wasn't a member when that thread was created. I'm a newbie, so forgive me

I do believe we have one unique resource that can make a "diamond in the rough" work - a really good offensive line guru, in Mike Tice. A "project" like these two UDFA's are useless to most teams because they require a significant investment of time, from a gifted oline coach. Most teams won't mess with a longer-term project like these two guys.

Tice will move on in a year or two to be a head coach again. With Emery feeding Tice high quality weapons, he's probably going to look like a genius in a year or two and teams will be beating down his door to be their HC.

My only hope is that he leaves us with a stellar oline. By that time I believe we will have one of the best in the NFL. The Emery/Tice combo is going to be really good. It just takes more than one off-season to fix the holes left by Jerry Angelo.

I hope he IS at Hooters, and he posts some details here afterwards.
Sounds like he's dating an older woman

No problem. The Bears took so much flack for not drafting an Olineman that it doesn't hurt to review his credentials for success one more time. I agree that PFW has a somewhat sketchy rep but in this case it was backed by Mel Kiper who whether you like him or not has been doing draft evaluations for a very long time.

There are a couple of others I'd like to hear from as far as there opinions go. Todd McShay would be one and the Bears old Director of Personnel Greg Gabriel would be another. The guy was rated the second best player overall after the draft finished up so he must have something going for him. Sanz was ranked pretty high like that last year and as it turned out we got a good player in him.

They were lining Brown up at RT with the first team on the days Carimi didn't practice so there not wasting anytime seeing what he's got to offer.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
