It's been said for weeks now that he'll have the right to change plays at the LOS if he doesn't like the play call against what he's seeing. He won't be calling his own plays though. I think that went away long ago. Some guys like Manning may audible far more than others but typically plays are sent in from the sidelines. That's why they wear those headsets in their helmets.
I think a lot of OC's script there first few offensive series to get an idea of how the defense adjusts to various alignments and what kind of pass coverage they're using. Then they adjust their play calling from that. Bill Walsh was the guy who started that trend.
Everyone has always said that he's really smart. If anyone's gonna know best what's gonna work, it's gonna be the guy on the field who knows what kinds of throws he can make and which ones are gonna be trickier.
McMahon did it many times and it worked. Yea Ditka bit his ear off about it sometimes, but Jimmy Mac stood his ground and explained his case ( or sometimes shouted it ) well enough ( most times ) that Ditka understood the wisdom of it once that famous temper of his cooled off.
So I can see Cut doing it sometimes. But he better be right.

I'm not going to fault him if he audibles to give himself options, even if he misses on occasion. Giving Jay tactical flexibility is an advantage Martz never gave him.
They really need to take the training wheels off once and for all. Cutler isn't Blaine Gabbert.
If they're gonna allow him to audible into something other than the play that's sent in then in effect the have taken the training wheels off. He should have been permitted to do it long ago then maybe he wouldn't have had to tell Martz to go fuck himself. :lol-027:
