You know I'm still intrigued by the idea that if Hardin could pack on another 20-25lbs and play around 240-250lbs whether or not he'd be a candidate for MLB. He really is built like a mini Urlacher and he has that same kind of speed and range.

This is one of those hmmmmmmm.......things you just role around in your head.

That would never work. Urlacher was always a big guy with great speed and vision. Just genetically gifted and a one of a kind talent that comes around every decade or so. Its a nice thought but you can't make another Urlacher or a mini-Lacher.

Well you could never make a duplicate of Urlacher I agree. Not many guys come along with that kind or size and speed. In that regard he's definitely a "freak" occurrence as players go. I think the question is does Hardin have the kind of frame that could support more weight without losing his speed or athletic ability.

A year ago I would have said no way until I saw what a great body building program did for Henry Melton. I never would have believed he could have gone from a 260lb backup DE to a 295lb 3t DT who looks to have the potential that he does. It's just a thought. Urlacher began his college career as a Safety and I'll bet he wasn't always 258lbs.

I forgot which position they tried him at first, but didn't he fail as a WLB or a SLB before being moved to MLB? Just throwin' that out there. For anyone interested, here's Urlacher's combine results vs Hardin's pro day workouts:

    Hardin

BTW: I know LaVarr Arrington had his moments, but rated better than Urlacher? Thank god for the Redskins....

They had Urlacher at SLB first then moved him to MLB.

Well with the exception of about 40lbs difference the rest of their stats are pretty similar. LOL Probably not a very practical idea any more than putting McClellin there in the future. By the time Urlacher hangs it up I'm hoping both Hardin and McClellin are studs at the positions they were drafted to play.

Saw something interesting looking at the Hardin scouting report. He was the 2nd ranked FS out of 70 this year and Conte was ranked as the 2nd best FS last year and we were able to get both of them in the 3rd round. I'd say those was two pretty good value picks.

I knew you were going to bring up the Melton project. lol

It is a good thought though Soul. What's interesting is that in his senuior year Urlacher was playing at 238lbs. When he showed up at the combine, he was 20lbs heavier.

LOL, just thought I'd sneak that in. I gotta tell you I didn't believe it happened when someone here first mentioned they were moving him to DT. I was like, "how in the hell are you gonna play a 260lb guy at DT". Somebody said he gained some weight but I could believe he could gain that much. It's pretty incredible what personal trainers and the right diet can do.

Well at any rate it's doubtful Hardin would ever play at 258lbs. Maybe 238lbs but that's about it. I'll settle for him staying at 220lbs and becoming an all pro ass kicker of a Safety.

I love his potential as a bonecrushing safety. And I can barely wait to see him on STs taking people out. I love players with speed and that hit hard. This is a bizarre draft class in a lot of ways, but its full of guys that can do certain things very well.

Ironically, read that SI story linked above about Urlacher, and then go read the stories about McClellin...lotta similarities.
