The Chicago Bears have had five players in on a tryout basis this week for minicamp and it is possible one of them could be signed.

That is because the team currently has 88 players on the roster after it informed offensive lineman Mansfield Wrotto that he will be placed on waivers, according to an NFL source. The Bears were at the limit of 90 entering minicamp and waived Donovan Warren earlier this week.

Wrotto was working with the first team at right tackle earlier this offseason when last year’s first-round draft pick Gabe Carimi was still sidelined with his knee injury.

The current group of tryout players includes one lineman, Corey Brandon, a 6-7, 324-pound tackle from Oklahoma who has spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Also in on a tryout basis are tight end Darcy Johnson, running back Embry Peeples and defensive end Eli Joseph.

These won’t be major moves. At this point, it’s about making sure the team has the right number of “camp bodies” at every position. The Bears will likely tweak the roster slightly between now and the beginning of training camp. It would be a little unusual for the club to take five quarterbacks to Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais. That means a decision could be made between Nathan Enderle, the fifth-round pick from last year, and newcomer Matt Blanchard, the Wisconsin-Whitewater product.

The team concludes the offseason program with a 12:30 practice Thursday at Halas Hall.

Another "Camp Body" for sure. I doubt that any of them would make it past camp but you never know.

Had not heard we brought in Peeples. I think he is a MUCH better pro prospect than Allen as is Alexander (whose UDFA signing I am still a huge fan of), so I hope he gets a shot at one of those final two spots left. We already have a hugely better crop of RBs in camp than last year and a couple really solid PS prospects in those two rooks.
