I agree the Bears shouldn't overpay the position, but if they can find a middle-ground on a long term contract, I believe that is GOOD for the Bears. Here's why. Forte won't be used as hard. With our new high-powered passing weapons, and with great quality RB depth, we won't have to have Matt Forte as the major part of our offense. He will be an important part, but won't be overused as in the past.

Forte will last us a long time under these new conditions.

He is perfect for our offense. Just a great fit. Sure we could get another #1 RB, but why do that if we already have a great Pro Bowl guy whom we can now use "low mileage" moving forward? With this lower use I expect him to have great legs in December/January......a big difference from when he was our only real weapon.

I'm still hoping we lock up Matt in a long-term contract. Not for Matt's sake, but for the sake of our team. But, yes, don't overpay the guy. Find a middle ground compromise. I think this will happen.

Listen I get the concerns about a RB after 30. But this idea that they are not able to be elite at 26-29 is just false. That only happens when they consistantly get 350-400 touches which Forte has not. Forte should easily be able to play until 29-30 and still be getting 1200-1500 yards which is still well more then most backs can get. And to assume that you can just get another back that can do it is also false b/c most cannot. Only about 11-12 do each year and only the top 9 or 10 do it consistantly
find a WR like that >>> find a RB like that

So a WR that gets 62.5 yards ( 1000 yards) a game is worth more then a RB that averages 87.5 yards ( 1400 yards) REALLY?

wr is also completely dependent on the qaulity of the qb getting him the ball also.

Moose was right about one thing. Until Cutler came along, "Chicago was where WR's go to die"

HAHA, my old sig was "Moose had it wrong, Chicago is where QB's come to die, WR's are just friendly fire". We'll see if Cutler can survive this and thrive to see which of us was correct.

look at how good or WRs were the last 2-3 years with a QB

It's really easier to find a RB that can put up that numbers as long as he stays healthy.
If not, having a RB that gives you 200 yards less a year is good enough and cheaper than what Forte wants.

Forte is replaceable if he wants that much. RBs aren't worth that much anymore unless you are AP or MJD. LT with his 100 TD season or Alexander were. Forte isn't on this level. He can stay under the FT or accept what the Bears offer him. Emery won't give him what he wants

German, that is what the media tells you, but the fact is it's not the case. RB's are still getting 2-3x's the touches of WR's. And the running game is as imporant as ever. You can talk about how Elite RB's dont win SB's, but neither do Elite WR's; hell again the best QB hasnt even won all the SB's recently. Eli beat two guys beter then him.

LT never had a 100 TD season he only had 162 total over 11 years. That would mean he had 62 over 10. But to make sure you understand where those stats come from; they also were getting 375-400+ carries; which is why they fell off so quick. A guy like forte dropping 1400 yards and 8-10 TD' on 280-300 carries is going to be a safe bet to give you similar stats until he's 30. He's not easily replaceable, it's very hard to find a RB that's going to drop 1000 yards year in year out, they are a rare breed.
