What worries me BBPB, is that both Urlacher and Briggs are getting old. And Roach is just "ok" as a starter. So, we need to be planning how to transition 3 starters into our LB corps over the next few years. Ideally, we need to begin with 1 guy next year. Maybe not in the first round, but certainly in the top three rounds. And then, what do you do for the other two LB slots?

I don't know. I just know we shouldn't wait until the wheels come off, before we bring some great young talent to groom for future starters.

Well the fact is that this year was not an option at addressing that area. We had bigger needs. And the way Urlacher and Briggs played last year, we may not have to be concerned for another 2 years. Next year's LB crop looks ok, no real superstars there. But Teo from ND could be a very solid MLB replacement. Very athletic and is a good fit for the Tampa 2 and can play all 3 LB positions. I think they'll be alright in finding some solid replacements. Finding solid LBs is much easier than say finding a solid O-libeman or pash rusher or QB.

I agree with all of that. I think we'll be ok because Emery seems pretty sharp. You can only fix so many things this season, and it seems like Emery did all he could.

And I'm not sure we should go 1st round LB anyway next year. All I'm saying is that we need to address this situation before we are in crisis mode.
    Go Bears!

It's improbable to replace a HOF guy like Brian right away. It's ok to have good or even very good LB's to replace him. It makes you appreciate a HOF more when you DO get another.

Imagine drafting Keutchy (sp). He could play well or even VERY well but would be compared and diminished for his play if it weren't HOF level. Tough act to follow.

Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

I agree. We do need to get the best possible replacement, even if it can't be another BU. But aim high. Try go groom a rock solid replacement. I'm believing Emery will be all over this situation so we don't tank a season due to a failure to plan ahead.
    Go Bears!
