Thread: B. Marshall wants to be coached up this season

Brandon Marshall is hoping he can get coached up with the Chicago Bears, something he says has not happened at previous stops in the NFL.Marshall wants someone that can help him elevate his game to a higher level now that he’s back playing with his favorite quarterback, Jay Cutler. That means he’s leaning on Darryl Drake, an original member of Lovie Smith’s coaching staff dating back to 2004, to help him along.
“To be honest (when I arrived in Miami) I was like, ‘You know, I need some coaching. Right now, I'm coming off my natural ability,’” Marshall told Jared Hopkins of the Chicago Tribune. “’I want a coach who's played the position or played the game before, who knows and understands the receivers position. So they can take me and my world to a whole other level.’
“I haven't had a good coach as far as that receiving position since I've been in the NFL. As far as technique and someone who understands the game, the last time I had a good receiving coach was D.J. McCarthy in college.”
Karl Dorrell, who has a long history as a wide receivers coach, was Marshall’s position coach in Miami. Steve Bush also held the title during his stint with the Dolphins and Ike Hilliard was an assistant. In Denver, he played under Adam Gase and Jedd Fisch. Marshall hopes Drake can come through for him where they could not.
“He's been around the position,” Marshall said. “Coached it for 30 years now, 20-something years. He's played the position. He's already helped me a ton already. So I respect coaches a lot but I haven't really had that -- a receiving coach.”
