"...Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was suspended Wednesday for six games for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, the league announced.
Commissioner Roger Goodell handed down the punishment a week after prosecutors decided not to charge Roethlisberger in a case involving a 20-year-old college student who accused him of sexually assaulting her in a Georgia nightclub in March...."

Big Ben was suspended for 6 games AFTER not being charged. When it comes to Rodger Goodell the NFL is not a democracy, it's a 1950's communist gulag.

It's not right, but there are reasons to be concerned when Marshal arleady has a long wrap sheet and Goodell has proven he'll sit you for mere claim of inappropriate behavior.

This isn't an inditement on Marshal, he shouldn't get suspended. But what Goodell has proven he can do is contrary to that. And w/a a bunch of alleged of domestic violences Goodell could do to him what he did to Ben.

Roethlesberger's suspension had a lot of components to it, that are incredibly different to the stuff that Marshall has on his rap sheet. Big Ben was accused of sexual assault twice within a year. That is a very sensitive subject for the female fanbase of the NFL. He got incredibly bad publicity over it. That is not the kind of publicity the NFL wants. Also, in one of the cases it came out that he provided alcohol to one of the underage alleged victims and her underaged friends.

There's a different kind of stigma that comes with being accused of something like that. And then you have to consider that the suspension took place at a time where Goodell was perceived as being "soft" when it came to player misconduct. Factor in that the Steelers would have to address that matter if Goodell didn't and the fact that he's one of the NFL's premier stars and its understandable why Big Ben had to be suspended.

Also not spoken of much is that Big Ben was a drunk. Well known around the league. The suspension got him into rehab as part of compliance. So he's suspension addressed an incredibly complicated situation.

I think it was just making sure that the pieces were in place to make his new investment as productive as possible.

I honestly don't think they brought in Jeffries as insurance. I think it was to create a real difficult to defend passing game.
You're probably right. I over-think too much sometimes. This is one of those time

Justifying 15 run-ins with the law as opposed to 2 doesn't make sense, regardless. Both were acquitted of all crimes, but Roethlisberger has kept his nose clean. Anyway, to quit digressing, Marshall has had enough trouble to bring concern.

There was also Pacman Jones who was not found guilty of anything and he got 1yr.

Point is, it doesn't take a guilty charge for Goodell to suspend someone, all it takes is him to see a pattern and decide you gots to get.

Why not just say Jeffreys insurance both on and off the field? Besides, there's nothing that says Jeffreys not going to flake out.

It is what it is, and - as it stands right now - The Bears are better off for it.

True. Maybe someone more familiar with Jeffrey than I can answer this question: how big of a concern is his "weight issue"? I saw a few videos on youtube talking about it; I thought his only problem was garbage QBs...

Nah boy likes to eat. I think he was having hammie issues during the Rookie OTA's. I'm assuming the Bears are going to get him on a diet and workout program to clear that up.

I really think the main thing was Cutler likes big bodied go up and get it types; and he fits that bill to a tee; and now Forte has at least 1(barring inj or something else) and should normally have 2. Add into that Davis and you have 2 to 3. This should be a good year for the air attack.

I think it's all related actually. If it IS for insurance, it could just as easily be to keep Jeffery around in two years if Marshall demands huge money. Until then, the Bears have two big and sure handed wideouts; one with experience and one a rookie, that should really provide a disgustingly productive offense by Chicago Bears standards.
The Greatest form of revenge is MASSIVE success.
